UFC 168 Results: Silva Suffers Gruesome Leg Injury after Checked Kick, Weidman Wins In Round 2

UFC 162 was the first time that Anderson Silva suffered a loss since fighting in Japan. It was the first time he suffered a loss in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and it was at the hands of the current UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman. Whether he was clowning or not, the fact remained that he got knocked out.

Which Anderson Silva was going to show up tonight? Was Chris Weidman’s victory was a fluke? Could history repeat itself tonight?

Chris Weidman shot for a takedown in the opening minute but it wasn’t long before Anderson Silva found his way back to his feet. Weidman didn’t have a chance to execute any offense. Weidman rocked Silva in the clinch with a right hook that landed behind the ear and Silva dropped. Silva pulled him into his guard and Weidman wasn’t able to generate enough momentum to end the fight with the punches he was throwing. Weidman landed with shot after shot, but abandoned trying to finish the fight and dove into Silva’s guard.

Weidman started working his ground-and-pound and Silva ate serious shots that caused his head to bounce off the canvas. Silva stayed busy on the bottom and even landed a couple hammerfists, but those were the only significant strikes he landed in the first round. The round ended with Weidman postured over Silva looking to pound his face in, but the horn sounded.

Anderson Silva walked into the middle of the octagon at the start of round two just as calm as he was in the first, which was impressive for the amount of punishment he took.

Silva landed the first shot of the round in the form of a lightning quick leg kick. Weidman landed a body kick that forced Silva to retaliate with another leg kick of his own.

That’s where things went wrong for Anderson Silva.

Chris Weidman checked the kick and Anderson Silva’s leg broke. Silva’s shin bent like it was rubber and wrapped around the shin of Weidman. Silva let out a scream of agony and fell to the ground. Herb Dean called an end to the fight after his leg broke in half.

This could be the end of Anderson Silva’s career. We here at BJPENN.COM are hoping his emergency surgery is successful.

Chris Weidman defeated Anderson Silva by way of TKO (Injury) 1:16 of Round 2

After all the disrespecting he’s shown to his opponents for pretty much his entire career, I can’t say I’m sorry for the guy. He’s gotten his well-deserved break from MMA.. Hopefully for good.

  8. Richard says:

Silva is one of the greatest fighters i have ever seen in any art form and to see him go down this way is almost a tragedy. Any fight that ends up like this sucks. I hope this doesn’t mean the end to his career and it doesn’t then I’m sure that he will return to try and regain the title. All the best to Weidman. Well deserved.

  9. Ryan says:

Joshua Mann, Sincerely GO FUCK YOURSELF!

  10. Phil Asophical says:

Checked leg kick? Weidman had 0 to do with the leg breaking, Checked kick he got hit squarely there was no leg check. this site’s writers suck anymore.

  11. Xaninho says:

A sad way to end such a career filled with moments of absolute greatness. Like Weidman said Silva is still the GOAT, it’s just time to hang up the gloves and leave the fighting to the young guns.

I think Weidman is going to beat Vitor he looked good today.

It’s not the ending I was hoping for Chris or Anderson, I wanted Chris to put a stamp on the fact that this is his time, and finish Anderson with his skills leaving no doubt as to who is the better fighter is. As much as I disliked Anderson and his antics I wanted to see him get stomped. I certainly did not want that horrific leg break to happen, I wish Andy a quick and healthy recovery.
