‘UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis’ Live Main Card Play-By-Play And Results
The stacked main card features some of the most notable talent in the UFC spanning three-seperate weight classes including a main event bout between Anthony Pettis and Benson Henderson for the UFC lightweight championship of the world.

ERIK KOCH (13-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) VS. DUSTIN POIRIER (13-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC)
Round 1 – The fight begins and Poirier immediately throws a leg kick, and Koch counters his second leg kick with one of his own. Following some feinting, Poirier lands a huge right hand. Koch stumbles and Poirier looks to capitalize with a barrage. Koch throws up a tight triangle attempt. It is deep. Poirier struggles and manages to find his way out, but at the cost of big energy expended. Poirier maintains the top and Koch looks for the triangle yet again, Dustin wisely escape’s and stands up. The two men clinch, Poirier looking for knees. A HUGE left hand lands for Dustin after the break, Koch crumbles. Poirier swarms looking for the finish, Koch defends but Poirier’s punches are still landing. Hammer fist attempts by Poirier, Koch manages to get back to his feet, only to be tripped by Poirier. Dustin looks to mount, then looks for his patented D’arce choke, it is tight. Somehow, Koch makes it to the bell.

Round 2 – Koch clearly recovered between rounds, the two men exchange jabs and feint. Poirier throws a left straight that lands cleanly, Koch looks to counter with a hook. Poirier gets another trip and quickly moves again to Koch’s back and looks for the RNC. Koch escapes and allows Poirier to get full mount, while shrimping out, Koch eats a big left hand. Against the cage, Poirier looks to get the triangle from the top, but it leads to Koch getting back to his feet. Big elbow from Poirier in the clinch, a banged up Koch looks to land some knees to the body. Poirier throws a big hook on the break and then quickly takes the center of the cage. Stalking Koch, Poirier throws a few shots, landing a back fist before the round ends in the clinch
BJPENN.COM scores the second round 10-9 for Dustin Poirier
Koch again comes out strong, throwing a lazy jab and looking to counter. Poirier gets to the clinch and looks for the takedown, peppering Koch in between attempts. While going for a single leg, Poirier gives up position and Koch ends up on top in guard. Poirier looking for the arm bar, while Koch stacks and defends well, landing tight shots to the head of Poirier. Landing more shots, Koch gets Poirier’s back in the scramble, both hooks in, Poirier looks for the back door escape. Koch uses his weight and gets it back to the mat. Body triangle for Koch now, looking for the RNC, but he is clearly too tired and is unable to get the submission before the bell.

BEN ROTHWELL (32-9 MMA, 2-3 UFC) VS. BRANDON VERA (12-6 MMA, 8-6 UFC)
Round 1 – The two men touch gloves, Vera takes center cage, throws a straight to the body of Rothwell. Vera lands a heavy inside leg kick and Rothwell looks to counter with some huge hooks. Rothwell pressing forward now, Vera lands another leg kick and the men exchange. Vera lands a left and right straight as Rothwell counters with a big hook that stumbles Vera. Rothwell continues to press the action looking for big hooks and overhand rights. Vera lands a heavy kick to the body, but Ben continues to press forward. Vera moving well, but gets cut off by Rothwell who throws heavy leather. Vera with more big kicks, and a perfect left hand, but Ben still presses forward and throws a head kick that misses. Vera dangerously close to being clipped while exiting the pocket. Lots of feints now, Ben presses forward and throws a big leg kick that strays to the groin of Vera. Brandon gets a break, the two men touch gloves and the round ends.

Round 2- Vera opens the second round with more heavy leg kicks. Rothwell comes back with a kick of his own, and moves forward. Vera attacks with a left hook that misses, and Rothwell throws a head kick that is blocked by Vera. Ben rushes in with a combo and the men end up in the clinch, Rothwell looks for uppercut’s and they break. Brandon goes back to circling and throwing heavy leg kicks, while Rothwell appears to slow a bit. Ben continues to press forward and back to the clinch. Rothwell breaks and lands a huge right hand, Vera moves well and counters Ben’s onslaught with an elbow. The round ends with both men in the center of the octagon.

Round 3- Both men touch gloves again and immediately get back to action. Rothwell again presses in with a heavy attack, looking to do damage in the pocket. With no damage being done in the clinch, Herb Dean splits them up. Rothwell comes in with a head kick that misses and then begins to feed off the hometown crowd, bobbing and weaving. Rothwell rushes in with two big hooks followed a quick shot for a takedown. Rothwell immediately changes levels and attacks with ferocious hooks and uppercut’s that land on Vera. Vera moves in reverse with his guard up, Ben throws a huge knee that lands, followed by a hook and a nasty uppercut that drops Vera. Rothwell moves in for the finish with huge hammer fists and punches as Vera turtles up, Herb Dean steps in and the fight is over.
Official Decision Ben Rothwell wins via TKO 1:54 of Round 3
CLAY GUIDA (30-13 MMA, 10-7 UFC) VS. CHAD MENDES (14-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC)
Round 1 – Clay pressing forward bobbing up-and-down with the left and right hand pawing. Front kick to the oblique by Guida, Chad maintaining distance well and avoiding strikes. Guida continues to press forward with wild hooks and Mendes utilizes great head movement attempting to counter. Guida looks for a takedown and Mendes grabs a guillotine, Guida scrambles out and they are back to their feet. Guida throws a head kick that misses and Chad returns with an uppercut attempt. Fast pace continues, Guida and Mendes exchanging in the pocket, with neither man landing too significantly. Mendes shoots for a huge double leg and gets it to the ground. Chad working heavy ground and pound with elbows, Guida spins out and gets back to his feet, the two men square up and the round ends.

Round 2- Guida comes out quickly, firing left and rights, Mendes dodges and looks to land some leg kicks. Guida diving in with huge leather but missing as Mendes moves and counters. Guida presses forward yet again and throws a jumping front kick that lands to the groin of Mendes, Yves Lavigne stops the fight. Mendes quickly recovers and we are back to action, huge leg kick from Mendes and Guida shoots in. Chad stuffs the takedown easily and looks for the back of Guida. Before allowing Clay back to his feet, Chad lands a big knee to the body and then looks for one to the head on the way up. Mendes shoots in and Clay sprawls. Mendes relentlessly attempts again and gets the single, Guida avoids damage and scrambles back to his feet in the clinch. Guida moves forward with a high front kick, and then slips as Mendes is there to grab ahold of him. Mendes lands punches as Guida wall-walks to his feet. The round ends with Guida pressing forward.

Round 3- Guida rushes in and Mendes counters with a huge over hand right that drops Clay. Chad comes in for the kill but patiently waits for the huge left and right hook combo that drops Guida against the cage. Mendes continues his onslaught of punches to get the finish.
Official Decision Chad Mendes wins via TKO 00:30 seconds of Round 3
JOSH BARNETT (32-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) VS. FRANK MIR (16-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC)
Round 1 – Barnett quickly takes center cage, and then grabs the clinch, throwing big knees and uppercuts. Frank Mir counters with his own uppercuts and dirty boxing, Barnett controls the clinch and continues to work the knees to the body and uppercuts. More huge knees to the body and head by Barnett, landing with vicious power. Barnett controls Mir, throwing everything with bad intent, then one super-heavy knee to the head of Mir that drops Frank to the canvas, the fight is stopped. Mir protests the stoppage, popping right back up to his feet.

CHAMP BENSON HENDERSON (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) VS. ANTHONY PETTIS (16-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC)
Round 1 – The two men touch gloves and the main event is under way. Henderson opens by pumping the jab and takes control of the cage. Pettis looks to counter and Benson shoots for a single leg, Pettis defends hopping on one foot, using the cage to get separation. Front leg side kick by Benson, then he rushes in with a right hand and another takedown attempt that he does not complete. Heel kicks to the legs of Perris from Benson while controlling the clinch, hard uppercut on the break as well. They separate and Henderson immediately comes back with pressure on the cage, working for the takedown. Clinch control by Henderson, then Pettis breaks free and lands a big right kick to the midsection of Benson. Lots of pawing from both men, Pettis begins to unload some serious kicks to the body now, over and over. Pettis attempts a crazy wheel kick, but Benson takes advantage and gets top position. Before Henderson can mount any offense from the guard, Pettis throws up a beautiful arm bar attempt. Henderson tries to escape but Pettis wisely transitions to the Russian-style belly down arm bar, Benson has no choice but to verbally submit. Pettis captures the lightweight title in impressive fashion.
