UFC 164 Card Update: Clay Guida vs. Chad Mendes Finalized for August 31st

By JAKE CHASTAIN

| We broke word a few days ago that the UFC was negotiating with Chad “Money” Mendes (14-1 MMA) and Clay Guida (30-13 MMA) on trying to get their fight rescheduled for the August 31st UFC 164 event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The two were supposed to fight each other at the recent UFC on FOX 7 card but Guida sustained an injury that forced him to withdraw from the bout. Mendes went on to impressively KO Darren Elkins at the event and with Guida now healthy the UFC decided to reschedule that bout for the end of summer.

The fight was finalized and announced as part of UFC 164 yesterday afternoon. The two will scrap on the PPV segment of the fight card on August 31st with the winner likely getting very close to a title shot against Aldo or Pettis, depending on the outcome of that fight.

UFC 164 now has three and a half fights finalized for its card and aside from the Mendes/Guida fight the show will also feature Brandon Vera’s return to the heavyweight division as he takes on Big Ben Rothwell. No main-event has been scheduled yet.

Here is how the card stacks up at this point:

UFC 164 Main Event:

UFC 164 PPV Main Card Fights (7 p.m. PT):

145 lbs.: Clay Guida vs. Chad Mendes
155 lbs.: Diego Sanchez vs. TBA

UFC 164 FX “Prelims” (5 p.m. PT):

  1. Nate "THE CHEAT" Marquardt says:

Guida will back out again mark my words

Yes if hope I’m wrong because I can’t wait to see Guida get smashed

    Lay Guida SUCKS

  2. some guy says:

clay used to be fun to watch… greg jackson killed that!

  3. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

This is not a fight I look forward to. Two boring wrestlers humping eachother. No thanks.

    • Steven Thurman says:

mendes isnt a boring wrestler, none of the alpha male team is.. they all usually rely heavily on striking, and only use their superior wrestling as a fall back. a large portion of their finishes come from Striking, and a large portion of each of their wins come from finishes…

      • nick says:

I agree with dutchman, this a snoozefest and NOT a fight I look forward to at all. Who gives a shit about Alpha male? We’re talking about mendes and guida. I would put money down right now that this will end in a decision

        • Steven Thurman says:

3 of his 5 wins have been finishes. And decisions arent always boring either, Like his fight against Javier Vasquez.

  4. Ddddddd says:

I could see these guys forcing a good fight out of each other.
Mendes throws with conviction though and I see that being the difference. If Guida could stifle Mendes with his caveman hunting tactics he might surprise.

  5. Nate " THE CHEAT" Marqaurdt says:

Guida doesn’t stand a chance in hell that is why Greg Jackson will get him out of this fight ( A G A I N )

Guida’s entire MMA game is an illusion built on his nasty ass rat infested hair flaling around makes him look like he is doing a hundred times more than he actually is. Lay Guida SUCKS and I predict if he does show up and after Mendes kicks his boring ass the UFC will give him the “FITCH” treatment

  6. nick says:

great, another total snoozer. Guaranteed this will be a boring decision

  7. lololol says:

sorry guys, clay guida is gunn get knocked out wont last a round i say
