UFC 161 RESULTS: “Suga” Rashad Evans Squeaks Out Split Decision Victory Over Dan Henderson in Exciting Battle

| What a scrap! This was definitely worth a main-event booking! There was a lot riding on this fight and these two competitors fought like it. The fans should have been thoroughly pleased with this bout!

The first round was a back and forth battle that saw both men gain success in their striking but nothing huge landed. Hendo hit a couple of nice uppercuts and some overhands but the big strike came with about a minute left when he landed a straight left that rocked and droped Evans. Evans recovered and the round ended with the two dancing in front of each other but I thin Henderson won the round with the big strike and the couple strikes he landed following that. I also noted, although he was dropped, Rashad looked very quick and landed some good strikes in the first. However, I still think Henderson stole the round with the straight that rocked Evans.

Rashad came out using his wrestling to start the second round. He tried to take Hendo down but was unsuccessful and when they broke from the clinch they both landed nice shots! Both men again saw success in their striking and this round was very close. What stood out to me in the second round was that Rashad is not going to take Henderson down. Dan stuffed three takedowns and made Rashad pay for each shot he attempted. This was a very close round to score and could have gone either way.

Evans came out in the third with a killer’s intent. He rocked Dan early in the round with some really big shots and his speed was beginning to stifle Henderson’s attack. Rashad was slowly taking over the pace of the fight and landed some great combos while pressing Henderson against the cage. Henderson was starting to fade and Rashad only increased the pace, controlled the clinch and poured on everything he had. The fight ended with both men swinging and the horn sounded and closed out an amazing fight between two warriors.

Rashad narrowly out-struck Henderson 49-47 in total strikes landed and squeaked out a razor thin split-decision victory over Dan Henderson.

Rashad Evans Wins via Split-Decision Victory

This was a great showing for both men and a great fight for the fans. This is a tough loss for Henderson (his second decision loss in a row) but will likely still get a top contender in his next fight. Rashad is likely back in the 205 title hunt and will get another top contender in his next bout. To see if the UFC announces anything breaking at the press conference click here.

I never noticed this b4 but hendo is always in these close decision fights that could go either way that now reminds me but franky Edgar is the small Dan Henderson. Thank u for both fighters. Bj penn still greatest of all time tho

    • krafty11 says:

Maybe, but Frankie doesnt have the H-bomb at his disposal.. Hendo can end the fight at any point.. I just think Father Time is catching up with him..even with the TRT,he was clearly gassed by the 3rd round..

  2. GRT 3000 says:

Rashad stinks up a card…done watching his PPVs

I dont get what ppl are bitching bout? 1st round clearly went to Dan for dropping rashad. In the 2nd round without being bias i scored it for Rashad,he even had a little takedown in there but it was close round. The final 3rd round, Rashad clearly won that. He cornered hendo, even dropped him and went breserk on him so Rashad won that round. 2nd and 3rd went to Rashad. It wasnt a robbery, ppl just thought dan won because they were rooting for him to win. I was rooting for Dan 2, but im not gonna bitch about him losing, was a close fight, but without being bias I think Rashad edged him.

It’s funny this article is headlined “exiting battle” which BS.Their was nothing exiting about this fight, just like every other Evans fight.

  5. Ya herd says:

Rashad is overrated, his style won him the fight styles make fights was a bad match up for hendo. But I think Rashad came out and tried to make it a fight respect Rashad,

  6. KIDD433 says:

@Thom…His fight with Tito was good I agree,Jones fight was boring as shit. But sounds to me you’ve never spent 45 bucks on a card and seen it to waste by Evans fighting casually.

  7. 757 says:

Rashad is maybe past the point of being a threat. To be honest I thought Hendo although he is a legend lost to Shogun, and is past his prime now. It’s unfortunate but true. He did lose two of the three rounds. They were not great rounds for Rashad, but Hendo did lose them. Boring fight, but honestly it was correctly scored. No more gifts for Hendo. The Shogun fight was the last one.

  8. 757 says:

KIDD433 THANK YOU AND THE FIGHT WAS BEING EXCITING COMMENT IN THE ARTICLE WAS B.S. Other guy ^^^that’s your opinion. I thought Hendo lost. I like Hendo and have always been a fan but I thought Shogun got ripped.

  9. wrestler170 says:

757 you’re retarded if you think henderson beat shogun, I was actually hoping shogun would beat him. but shogun was close to being finished 3 or 4 times in that fight. he definitely lost the first 3 rounds & the 3rd rought could have been a 10-8 it was seconds away from being stopped. shogun came back in a close fourth round & won the 5th against a gassed hendo but didn’t even really land good shots forreal. shogun definitely did not beat henderson & even if you thought he did it wasn’t a gift. it was either seen as a close fight or henderson dominated. no way shogun could be seen as a clear winner.

  10. KIDD433 says:

Looks like that Flamer “Gaygole Wrestling” is back but under a different name,wrestler170.Tho that Hendo/Shogun fight was close,I had Shogun winning that fight too.
