UFC 159 weigh-ins, Weidman Q&A set for Friday In Newark

The official weigh-ins for Saturday’s “UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen” are set for Friday at AmeriHealth Pavilion at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The event is a precursor to the UFC light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones (17-1) and challenger Chael Sonnen (27-12-1).

Jones and Sonnen were opposing coaches in the recently-concluded Ultimate Fighter 17 reality series. The weigh-ins will be our first chance to see Sonnen at 205. The two-time middleweight title challenger has been at 170 for several years.

In addition to Jones vs. Sonnen, UFC 159 showcases a middleweight bout between Alan Belcher (18-7) and Michael Bisping (23-5) and a heavyweight fight between Cheick Kongo (18-7-2) and Roy Nelson (18-7).

Fighters step on the scale at 4 p.m. ET, and doors open at 3 p.m. ET. The weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Prior to the weigh-ins, UFC Fight Club members will be able to participate in a Q&A session with UFC middleweight contender Chris Weidman. A son of New York, Weidman (9-0) squares off with champion Anderson Silva (33-4) for the title at UFC 162 in Las Vegas in July. Weidman is set to begin at 2 p.m. ET, and doors open at 1 p.m.

If there’s any decisions this weekend, I’m shutting the tv off until the next fight starts.
