UFC 158 Results: GSP retains title with Unanimous Decision victory over Diaz | UFC NEWS

The MMA world has been waiting for this fight for over two years. It finally happened. There is no way this fight could live up to the hype it generated. It was impossible for that to happen. Georges St. Pierre (24-2) defeated Nick Diaz (26-9) with very little trouble at UFC 158.
It should have come as no surprise to anyone when GSP shot in for the takedown within the first 30 seconds of the opening bell. It would set the tone for the entire fight. He then dominated Diaz on the ground, smothering him and not allowing him to get back to his feet. This is what GSP does best completely exposing his opponent’s weakness.
The second round was no different; GSP took Diaz down within the first 40 seconds. Holding him down and working some very vicious ground and pound. There was nothing Diaz could do through the entire 2nd round, until with less than a minute left he was able to scramble back to his feet. And the taunting from Diaz began.
In the third round Diaz started to show that GSP’s takedowns can be stopped. He was able to stuff GSP’s takedowns, and that fed the taunting even more. Then Diaz got what he wanted; a stand up battle. At first GSP was out striking his opponent, but Diaz was able to land a left hand with about 1 minute left in the round. Diaz took over that last-minute of the round and started to really hurt GSP. The round came to a close, and then Diaz swung at GSP after the bell. Referee Yves Lavigne warned Diaz he would be disqualified if he did it again.
Before the fourth round GSP’s corner told him he should not stand with Diaz, take him down was the order. Conditioning for either fighter has never been questioned, but it seemed like they were both starting to slow down. The fourth and fifth rounds were a stand up battle that Diaz wanted, but was too tired to engage. And GSP started to land the takedowns late in the rounds to continue controlling the fight.
In the end GSP proved to be too much for Diaz. When the fight ended Diaz showed that he did have respect for the champ raising the hand of GSP immediately. He knew he lost, and showed the respect that GSP deserved and earned from Diaz. GSP in turn showed there was no animosity for Diaz as he also raised the hand of Diaz.

boring fight, nick diaz didnt even look like he wanted to win & im sure paul daley got fired for trying to punch koscheck after the round, nick diaz did the same thing in my opinion.
I agree @123 straight boring.
& don’t mean to shit on Nick here, but during the stand up exchange where was this long hyped firepower we keep hearing about. It seems if he can’t crowd someone to a corner and speed bag them, his whole gameplan is shot. No one’s going to stand still for him! & GSP needs to follow up on those jabs (or better yet throw a FULL punch) he lands with combinations – sure it commits the body more fully but it also provides an opportunity to finish. & at the very worst, an actual fight might break out for the fans. overhyped & boring.
I wouldn’t say it was boring, it was overhyped, but that was a function of Diaz, the media and us for listening. I figured it would end like it did, but the 25 minutes went by really quickly for me, not boring at all. GSP played his game and stood up with Diaz for a bit, and the sky didn’t fall. Good for him. I would have loved for him to KO Diaz, sure, or submit him or something, but absolutely dominating opponent after opponent is quite an accomplishment too. This was just like the Condit fight minus Condits kick to the head. GSP is the best in his division at this sport, its up to others to beat him.
Typical gsp fight boring as hell!!!!Glad I didn’t pay for it watched it on first row.com!!!! Wins a win!!!
Never expect anything from GSP other than what he did tonight and every other fight. He will never try to finish at his peril. Meaning: Unless he knows he can finish without putting himself in a very risky position; he will continue to stick with his gameplan, out work, out smart, and out wrestle whoever is put in front of him.
The reason I watch him fight is to see if his opponent can create an opportunity to capitalize (Condit) and win.
Diaz tried to do what Condit did with the sneaky high kick, except with the right leg instead of the left. GSP had his hands up and it went poorly for Diaz.
Diaz could have won this fight and he knows it. That is why he wants a rematch.
But its time for Hendricks to go in there and throw some leather.
DIAZ did a lot better than I expected. He showed that he can beat GSP. He wore him down, landed some punches, and stuffed some take downs. I don’t know what happened last night. DIAZ didn’t go for the kill. ITS hard to tell but I don’t know if it was ring rust or bad strategy but he proved to me that he can beat GSP. GSP on the otherhand will get a “dominate performance ” but he looked horrible. He was exhausted unable to see Diaz’s slow punches. He dried humped his way into another victory but this one was clear and evident that he had no other strategy yo beat Nick. Hendricks will be next champ.
I feel Nick is like an old union worker that would cut his big gnarly nose off to spite his face. He so much wants the hard work he has invested to shine brighter than his abilities that to me it has turned him into a fighter that is pretty predictable.
It’s crazy that he can still make anything happen considering
everyone knows what’s gonna happen. Being a person that can at times wrestle with my own anxiety and inner thoughts
I really feel for him. I really think its a prime example of the management of stress and performance anxiety. If Nick wants to keep going he’s got to beat himself first and open up
to the idea that he’s a winner. When someone try’s that hard to get into everyone’s head and finds it that important it makes me wonder what his own mind does to him. Another
crazy factor being taxes,I feel for him there but his attention span being exposed in interviews makes it obvious he can redirect his thoughts so radically that he can probably shut things like this out till its to late(been there). It’s all in head and he wants to distribute it amongst the people that I think he knows care. Nick fights for the people that have problems
facing a new day every morning and I thank him for that and hope he learns to live in the moment and to be spontaneous
because I think he would be unstoppable if he was.
I agree with the 99% of what you said. You should however leave the big gnarly nose union worker comment out of it. Not every union worker did or does that. You sound like a snot nose ****ing ***** brat. For your information it is the union worker who helped build your country **** up. Anyway good comments besides that…..By the way he has accomplished great things so I think he can walk away proud if he wants. It’s guys like him that have entertained all of us with their hard work. It sounds like you know allot about the stress and anxiety thing …that’s good. That first line of your comment was ridiculous though…good job
Not meant to disrespect unions. A manifestation of trying to exist in Michigan as an independent contractor without an education. In this state it sometimes feels like your fighting
the effects of union jobs being outsourced. I absolutely wish the best for anyone in a union and I’m happy for their level of security. I come from a long line of successful union workers.
P.s. the gnarly nose was just symbolic to his sacrifice to the sport,we all know Nick loves it
Last time I ever buy a boring ass gay ass GSP fight again
WTF? are you retarded. That fight was awesome. Diaz couldn’t stop the takedowns and couldn’t stop GSP’s game. GSP dominated the whole thing. If the fight was boring, it was because of Diaz. It’s up to Diaz to impose his game and couldn’t do it. Just like all the Fitch haters on this site. Erick Silva didn’t allow Fitch to dominate him on the ground and he made a fight and Fitch still beat his ass up. Don’t you people realize that GSP completely dominated Diaz and it was Diaz’ fault?? Surely, you see that. GSP’s so called boring fights have NOT been due to GSP it has benn due to ALL HIS SHITTY opponents who couldn’t make a fight of it.
^^^^If all his opponents are shitty then it doesn’t make his performances that special now does it? Just another brilliant insight by the Gargoyle…..dick
757 giving us his brilliance again! No, idiot his performances have been FLAWLESS and dominant!! His opponents haven’t been able to make a fight. Can’t you ****in see that?? The only real knock you can give GSP is that he fights safe, but shit he’s the champion its up to his opponents to bring it. I don’t think many people on here have ever been in a fight or a grappling match.
Wow,u managed to say all that with GSP’s d1ck in your mouth.i think your the same jackass that used to be on a long time ago named “wrestling rules”He used to annoy the hell out of everyone with nonsense dry hump glory talk.I haven’t heared such garbage on here since he was on.Do us “Real MMA Fans” a favor and go to one of your gay porn websites, and stay off this website.Cause we’re pretty tired of hearing your garbage…
Well then quit reading my posts, simple. Just because I bring a different perspective than most here doesn’t mean I don’t have my points. In my opinion, you are pretty biased and don’t see dominance when you are watching it.
I think GSP is a good fighter no doubt. I also think you have a close minded way of looking at the game. You think wrestling is the only way to go. I think it is a vital base to have and can be a crucial part of the victory. I simply said that you called his opponents shitty and in the same breath praised his victories. It is a bit of a contradiction. You obviously talk allot of shit about wrestling and how great it is. It is great but it’s not the only thing, and not every wrestler is great like you would have people believe. You are a moron and you sound like a butt hurt little kid when you post your comments. KIDD433 put it perfectly when he replied to your comment……PLEASE LEAVE OR CHANGE YOUR NAME AND COME UP WITH NEW OBSERVATIONS.
I think you spend way to much time judging me instead of giving your reasons for being like you are. Most people I have met like you are very thin skinned and can’t seem to be able to handle someone who talks strong. It obviously bothers you when someone thinks something is great.I wonder why? Maybe its because I am a moron and butthurt??? It’s probably all me. smh
