UFC 144 Coverage | No Controversy | According To Compustrike Stats Henderson Won

The UFC’s return trip to Japan has come and gone. For the first time ever the UFC put on a four-hour pay-per-view event featuring seven main card fights.

In the main event it was Ben Henderson who proved to be the better man and secured championship gold around his waist. The main event went the distance but it was the former champion, Frankie Edgar who looked severely damaged after his 25-minutes in the cage with the new champion Benson Henderson.

While I didn’t personally see the fight ending in controversy it seems like many people have. As such, in these cases it is sometimes nice to see the fight statistics in black and white in order to bring some clarity to the issue. I have included the compustrike stats at the bottom of this entry.

That’s right Ben won. Look at the stats and Frankie’s face. What more do you want.

+1, i don’t need all those fancy stats because i saw with my own eyes the beating Frankie took. No i didn’t judge the fight based on blood or an upkick but even that alone was 10 times more damge than Edgar did the entire fight. Bendo laid down abeating on Edgar. I wonder how Edgars ribs are feeling from those 100 or so 12 to 6 elbows that looked that they made Edgar crumble at end of almost every round. Frankiew as saved by bell in at least 2 rounds. I have been wacthing MMA since UFC 1 so i don’t need some judge to tell me who won when one guy looks like he jumped out in front of a bus and the othger guy was as fresh after 5 rounds and didn’t have a mark on him to tell me who won. Benson beat the shit out Edgar hands down no bullshit. just because the frankie nuthuggers are use to him stealing decisons doesn not mean he got screwed. Frankie doesn’t move down in weight because he knows his speed won’t be affective verses Aldo who has way more power than Frankie. Problem is Frankie has taken way too mucg brain trauma in his last 3 fights. TOTAL BRAIN DAMAGE which is sad.

  2. Nick says:

That’s how I had it scored. 4 rounds to 1 Ben.

  3. Mike McMack says:

Haters can hate, Benson Henderson is the UFC Lightweighht champ. Frankie is a fantastic fighter but he lost that fight.

  4. MrGrooveSD says:

Well there you go if anyone is saying Edgar had more strikes.

  5. wtf says:

I love how this proves Henderson won, when Condit’s compustrike was better than Diaz and everyone made a big deal about it..

    • E says:

nobody was comparing condits compustrike stats with diaz. condit was back peddling the entire fight. if condit went out like henderson did, he probably wouldve put diaz away.

bens compustrike stats proves what WE have seen in the ben v frankie fight. ben landed the most significant strikes.

    • drosophila melanogaster says:

Well the whole controversy behind the Condit/Diaz fight was that Condit was purposely not engaging Diaz in order to win by points and throwing leg kicks for the majority of the time that didn’t even hurt Diaz’s legs. You can see Diaz actually jumping around to prove this point in one of Dana’s blog videos. This fight, on the other hand, you had Edgar who did not control the octagon like Condit, but unlike Condit, he actually tried to fight back on numerous occasions, struck Henderson with some hard shots and even took him down on almost half the attempts.

    • MOMO says:

no the big prob was condit was landing weak punches while back peddling where as bendo landed more and hit harder there is no way for it to have got to frankie.

  7. DAMN! says:

Knew it. Gotta remember that not all takedown attemps can cover up a busted face. Bendo FTW!

  8. hanggloves says:

when it comes to face result Frankie was destroyed. And that up kick was a huge turning point of the match. And also that take down followed by a guillotine.

  9. mean170 says:

49-46, maybe 48-47, Henderson. Only blatant Frankie d*ckriders will think Edgar won that fight. Ben looked like he had just finished a mile or two on the treadmill. Frankie’s face looked like he needed some reconstructive surgery.

  10. John_S_ Adams says:

That’s NOT Compustrike you are showing, that’s Fightmetric. Compustrike actually had Frankie Edgar outlanding Henderson.
    Via their Twitter:

Edgar had a 124-114 edge in total strikes landed but Henderson was more effective with his landed strikes
Edgar had 7-2 edge in takedowns

    • Joe D says:

I’m glad someone else noticed this.

How can they keep this article on the site when it’s not accurate at all?

There is clearly controversy about this decision, but UFC doesn’t want to give Edgar his due respect.

Frankie had Rounds 1, 3 & 5 – clearly. Damage isn’t a scoring criteria and one upkick shouldn’t determine the outcome of a fight.

  11. elimma says:

Had a feeling it would end like that frankie is great fighter but Benson to big and strong frankie will probably drop to feather weight but who knows gotta love his will to survive he was in a deep guillotine in guard that would of made just about anybody tap congrats to Ben looking forward to rematch with pettis

  12. No Love says:

If condit went forward like henderson did he probably woulda got put away..he fought a smart fight against diaz and secured the w…and frankie may have won a points battle but he definitely didnt win a fight…bendo did way to much damage and looked perfectly fine after the fight…frankies style makes him look like he’s winning alot but he jus took to much damage and dished none out this time

  13. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

This is so strange everytime Frankie engaged he landed at least 4 strikes. Ah, whatever he still deserves a rematch. Both him and Bendo put on a hell of a show.

  14. Rbastid says:

“significant” is a subjective thing. This states Frankie landed 11 shots in the first that were significant, despite him landing 3 & 4 punch combos over and over again. The only knock down punch in the fight came from Frankie, most of the non-jabs came from Frankie, the better kicks (ones not to the balls) came from Frankie. Yet because the guy at the fight metric desk sees it differently they claim Benson won.

Benson landed shots to one area on Frankie, Frankie struck Benson’s entire body, caught his kicks and weaved out of range of strikes, Benson jabbed and caught a lucky upkick to a guy that doesnt break 5’6.

    • kingkock says:

Benson landed giant knees and kicks to the body throughout the fight. (You do realize that catching a kick doesn’t mean it doesn’t land, right?) The knockdown you mention was actually a slip. That “lucky” upkick nearly knocked Frankie out and was by far the hardest shot of the fight. That Frankie is 5′ 6″ is irrelevant; a fight is a fight. If he’s too small for the division he should drop down.

  15. TheUltimateSmokester says:

The fight is judged by rounds not by total strikes landed. If in round 1 fighter A lands 25 strikes and fighter B lands 10 he probably wins the round, but the extra 15 does not mean he wins rounds 2,3,4,5. If a fighter gets hurt in round 1 and takes a 100 strikes but survives and in the following rounds edges his opponent he wins, even though he might not have landed as many strikes.

    • slacker says:

I agree. I had Edgar winning 1, 3, & 5. If he could have put some kind of mark on Benson, it would have tilted things more evenly in the judges eyes. Edgar screwed up big time with that upkick. If he finishes that round on top of Henderson, he probably goes on to win the fight.

      • E says:

i guarantee you between the 2 fighters, frankie took more damage in that fight and it showed in his performance.

      • Guamy says:

@slacker you have to be the biggest retard if you thought frankie won. werent you the one saying look at the compustrike when Diaz lost but now its diffrent since its edgar? compustrkie is BS anyway but its obvy that your just a stupid fucking greg jackson camp fan boy. you should get the f outa here with your un educated comments fuckin loser.

        • slacker says:

I thought he did enough to win. Although it wouldn’t be a decisive win because of the damage. By the way, Compustrike has Edgar outstriking Henderson by 10.

      • Jujitsu Player says:

I agree the up kick was the turning point. Watching the fight I wasn’t sure who was going to win, first round was so close by i had Edgar winning rd 3 & 5. Think Henderson got the nod on damage and octagon control. Edgar should get a rematch IMO though.

  16. The_Gooch1 says:

Ben clearly won the fight. I don’t know what these people saw.

  17. f,u donkeys says:

everybody who think ben won are douches, them and their mama lol..frankie lost just cause he looked like that doesnt mean he lost, takedowns punches is what he outlanded on ben. bra look at nicks face against bj and nick still won,but its clear nick won just like franlkie won..glad all u people and arent judges cause yall wouldve been douchebag judges..people complain aboutthe judges all the time ,and this is the second time i disagree with them…bj lost against nick ,chael won against bisping and nick won against condit, thats my first disagreement..frankie hit and runs pita pata, but he was the better man that night..whoever disagree, just ask ur mom cause she agree with everything i say lol

  18. mikeywithanem says:

Im glad Benson won… Maybe Franki deserves a rematch cos it was close but for sure bendo won. Clear in my eyes. Id like to see Benson vs BJ.. That wud b Cool… No one running away… Bj shud fyt at lytw8 and for gods sake get bCk in the octagon now

  19. Guamy says:

Compustrike is for RETARDS who cant use there own brain and 2 eyes to see who won a fight. in what paralel universe do you chase a guy down for 5 rounds tryin to fight him and he wins with baby jabs and feint kicks ex. (DIAZ/CONDIT). Ben clearly won that fight, Dana is a MORON if he thought otherwise and so are you. on the other hand Jake shields looked terrible out there a got a BS decision over akiama. i seen at least two very very bad decisions on this card. i love the scrap pack but Jake lost that fight fuck the judges.

  20. Dick Dias says:

lol i don’t know how the hell Frankie Edgar thinks/thought he won that fight… especially with his post-fight face looking the way it did.

  21. haz says:

Am I the only one who thought that Bendo won based on control, strikes, strategy (taking someone 5 rounds imo means you have no fear of being Ko’d). I had it at least 3-2, mabe 4-1 for Bendo.

I also thought that CONDIT won based on strategy, circling Into the center of the cage (different from running) and effective strikes (imo i didnt think diaz had any ‘control’ over condit as condit had free will to move wherever he wanted and execute his game plan). Looks like most people are either diaz & benson, or frankie & condit.

Frankie was the luckiest fighter in MMA history and Dana thought he had his white version of the pac-man and was clearly hyping the shit out of him.

I think frankie nuthuggers are just on the controversy bandwagon and trying to salvage something for him. Left and right people are now thinking they know better than the judges and refs (please kongo was knocked the fuck out) because a few bad decisions have occured.

    • E says:

i watched the fight again ben had rounds 2,3,and 4 hands down.

rounds 1 and 5 were close, i gave ben round one because he landed the most clean and powerful strikes. and i gave frankie round 5 because he turned it up and got the better of the exchanges in that round.

this is my honest opinion and im a fan of both fighters.

      • Bryan says:

I agree with this 100%. Volume of strike and takedowns should not matter as much in winning a round and through that the fight. Significant strikes and takedowns should. Yes, Frankie had quite a few takedowns, but answer this: what did he get from them? Answer: a heel to the face.
Anderson Silva is the prime example of this. Is he the biggest guy on earth, does he throw many strikes, no. But almost every strike he throws is devastating. So while quantity does mean something, quality is much more important.

  22. E says:

even without compustrike stats, many people saw frankie get beat up by the better fighter. no controversy.

  23. Xaninho says:

The upkick wasn’t a turning point. Benson Henderson was the better throughout the fight. I was laughing when Henderson’s corner was asking if he had 5 more minutes left in him. He answered:” I got 15 more coach”.

Henderson was just the better fighter, no room for discussion.

And what the hell was that walk out music Henderson had? Christian rap? He is a great fighter but the whole over the top religious thing is a bit annoying.
