UFC 141: Gamburyan vs. Nunes & Assuncao vs. Pearson Official

UFC officials took to twitter recently with the announcement of two UFC 141 featherweight additions.

According to the UFC’s post, Manny Gamburyan has agreed to face off with Diego Nunes and Junior Assuncao will take on Ross Pearson.

UFC 141 is set to take place on Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The end-of-year pay-per-view event will feature a five-round non-title fight between former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and newly signed heavyweight stand-out Alistair Overeem.

Gamburyan and Nunes originally had a date with destiny this past September but injuries forced both fighters to withdraw from the event.

Manny once fought for the WEC title against Jose Aldo after leaving the UFC’s lightweight division and going on a decent streak at 145. He was obviously unsuccessful in capturing gold against Aldo and found himself losing that bout via TKO in round number 2. He was last seen at “UFC on Versus 4: Kongo vs. Barry” in a decision loss to Tyson Griffin.

Nunes hit a bump in the road by the name of Kenny Florian in his last UFC outing. The loss snapped a three-fight win streak for the fighter who is widely regarded as one of the best featherweights in the world.

In other action, Assuncao who is now set to face off with Pearson is currently riding a seven-fight win streak. He was last seen in action at UFC 135 where he took out Eddie Yagin via unanimous decision.

Pearson is taking a leap of faith in this newly scheduled contest. “The Ultimate Fighter” season 9 winner is making his first trip down to featherweight in hopes to reignite his career with the UFC. He went 1-2 in his last three outings with his most recent performance coming way of a decision loss to Edson Barboza at UFC 134.
