TUF 18 Finale Results: Diaz Knocks Maynard Out In Round 1
Including preliminary bouts, we went four hours into the event until we heard Diaz and Maynard mentioned for the first time. They didn’t even need a round to steal the show. Unfortunately for Maynard, it was at his expense.
Gray Maynard opened up the bout strong, keeping his distance from Nate Diaz’s bizarre strikes. He took Diaz down with ease and it looked like it was going to be an even bout from there. Maynard dragged Diaz to the cage to try and bully him with shots, but Diaz wall walked up and executed a beautiful toss that led to a scramble. The action reset to middle of the octagon and that’s where things went downhill for Maynard.
Maynard ate a short left cross to the jaw and he stumbled toward the cage wall. He was groggy and didn’t know where he was, so Diaz capitalized and landed shot after shot. Maynard went from wall to wall, eating combination after combination until the referee finally stepped in and stopped the bout.
Seconds after the referee stepped in, Gray Maynard tried walking away and fell to the ground.
Nate Diaz defeated Gray Maynard by way of KO (Punches) 2:38 of Round 1
