TUF 17 Winner, Kelvin Gastelum Planning Drop To 170

“I was sitting in my office one day. And then I saw the (TUF 17 tryouts) ad and I was like, ‘Hey, I guess I’m going to go and tryout, see what happens.’ Because before that I was struggling. I was about ready to quit MMA for a while, and just get another job because obviously I wasn’t doing well financially. I was like, man, if I don’t make it, it’s going to be a while until I’m back in a cage somewhere. Luckily it worked out all in my favor.”

“I haven’t talked with Dana (White) or Joe (Silva) or anybody, but yeah, that’s what my next move is, or what I want it to be,” Gastelum revealed. “I haven’t really talked to anybody about it yet.

“I am [confident I can make 170.] All my fights have been at 185, but I know that once I get the diet going and my work outs, I’ll be able to make 170 for sure.”

TUF 17 winner, Kelvin Gastelum, tells “The MMA Hour” that he plans to make the adjustment and move down to 170 pounds.

He won season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter” as a middleweight contestant, but the last picked fighter was smaller than all of his competitors throughout the season.

Smart move?

I always thought that he was a little too small and pudgy at 185 pounds, but I had no idea he was going to win the whole thing! He’s gonna be the next welterweight champ probably in like 3 years time as long as they can build him up by letting him crush a few cans first.

lol next thing he’ll by at lightweight..Uriah won that fight

Man,this kid surprised me everytime. I’ll be checkin his fights for sure

  4. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

    Uriah Hall won that fight.

I don’t mind though. I think gastelum is a nice kid who deserves a break. Hall’s future is with UFC anyway, he might have not won TUF17 but I’m sure DW gave him a 6 figure contract.
