TUF 16 Vet Bristol Marunde Set to Face TUF Brazil 2 Competitor Viscardi Andrade at UFC 163 in Rio
UFC officials today confirmed a welterweight bout earlier reported by Globo today between TUF 16 alumni Bristol Marunde and TUF Brazil 2 semi-finalist Viscardi Andrade at UFC 163: Aldo Vs. Pettis in Rio on August 3rd. Andrade, a native Brazilian, was featured on the second season of TUF Brazil 2, which comes to a close this weekend. Now the two TUF participantss will face off in the octagon just over two months from now.
Marunde (12-8) has had his fair share of ups and downs throughout his MMA career, and will look to get back into the win column against Andrade. Bristol was a competitor on TUF 16: Carwin vs Nelson, and was picked by Shane Carwin after winning by guillotine choke to get into the house. Bristol went on to defeat Julian Lane via grueling decision in the quarter-finals, only to be defeated by Neil Magny in one of the semi-final matches. Marunde joined TUF following a submission defeat at the hands of middleweight contender Jacaré Souza in Strikeforce, and since TUF, Bristol suffered a KO defeat last month at the TUF 17 Finale against Clint Hester. Once a Superior Cage Combat middleweight champion, Marunde will be looking to score a big victory over Viscardi Andrade at UFC 163 later this summer.
Viscardi Andrade (13-5) was part of Team Werdum on the second season of TUF Brazil, and looked like a possible candidate to win the competition. Andrade scored a TKO victory to enter the house which led to him being Werdum’s fourth team pick. In the quarter-finals Andrade defeated David Viera in a hard fought decision, and went on to the semi-finals only to be defeated by eventual finalist William Macario via TKO in the sudden death round. Now Andrade will look to prove himself inside the octagon with a win over Bristol Marunde.
The scrap between Marunde and Andrade will likely be part of the preliminary fights to air on FX or Facebook. UFC 163 Aldo Vs. Pettis is set to take place August 3rd at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, live on Pay-Per View. Other announced fights on the card include a light-heavyweight contender bout between Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis, as well as a welterweight match between Josh Koscheck and Demian Maia.
