Tito Ortiz Takes Issue With Stephan Bonnar in the UFC Hall Of Fame
UFC Hall of Fame fighter and former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz, spoke recently to MMA Junkie about his concerns toward the UFC Hall of Fame’s new inductee, Stephan Bonnar. It was announced last month that Bonnar and Forrest Griffin are to enter the Hall of Fame together at the UFC Fan Expo leading up to UFC 162 on July 6.
Ortiz- who sits among the sport’s elite fighters like Royce Gracie, Randy Couture, Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell and several others- remarked that Stephan does not deserve the honor.
“Forrest deserves it. He beat me, and he beat some other really good guys. He was a world champion. He had some great fights. I think he deserves it. As far as Stephan, I have nothing against the guy, but you’ve got to be a world champion, I think, to be in the Hall of Fame.”
Even Bonnar seemed shocked at his inclusion, saying earlier this month on AXS TV’s Inside MMA that he “never really expected it… Just what an honor.”
Bonnar is best known for his Ultimate Fighter Season 1 Finale performance opposite Forrest Griffin. Though Bonnar lost the fight, and the subsequent rematch, the UFC has often touted him and Griffin as the two fighters who helped launch the UFC into the household name it is today.
