Thomson gets title shot with UFC on Fox win
Josh Thomson is a win away from the title shot he already had.
With 13 years in the fight game, Thomson is on a bit of a resurrection.
When he turned back Nate Diaz in April with an impressive TKO, he was given a shot at the UFC lightweight title
But current lightweight champ Anthony Pettis suffered an injury and is recovering from knee surgery.
Thomson opted to take another fight and is pitted against Ben Henderson as the two are set to fight this Saturday night in the main event of UFC On FOX 10.
In an interview with FOX Sports on Thursday, UFC president, Dana White said this about who gets the next shot at the lightweight title:
“Here’s the reality – if Thomson wins, he’s the next in line. Obviously Ben Henderson just lost very decisively in his last fight with (Anthony Pettis) and should Benson Henderson win, we’ll see what’s up with Gil (Gilbert Melendez).”
Melendez is in contract negotiations with the UFC for a new deal, but White feels the contract talks will be finished soon.
