Thiago Silva Out of Fight Against St. Preux At UFC Fight Night 35
It appears as though Murphy’s Law was quick in effect with the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 35. Within a mere 24 hours of the official announcement of a co-main event consisting of hard-hitting light heavyweights Thiago Silva and Ovince St. Preux, the former has been forced to withdraw from the fight due to reasons undisclosed.
While many are discouraged at the loss of what was a great matchup, there is a silver lining in this unfortunate occurrence. The UFC has plenty of time to recruit a replacement for the American Top Team standout. The Brazilian is on a two fight win streak, notching wins over Matt Hamill by unanimous decision and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (the former Strikeforce light heavyweight title holder) by knockout.
St. Preux, also known as OSP, mirrors Silva’s streak, garnering a knockout win over Cody Donovan and a technical decision over Gian Villante in his last two outings. UFC Fight Night 35 is set to take place in Duluth, GA at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on January 15. The event’s headliner will feature the former Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold clashing against a dangerous contender in Constantinos Philippou.
