By Jamie McAllister
Thiago Alves‘ surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle was a success and is targeting a late 2012 return to the Octagon.
Alves suffered a training injury which forced him to withdraw from his scheduled UFC 149 bout against Siyar Bahadurzada in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Here is the good news directly from Alves Twitter account.
-Great news just talked to my Doctor and my PT. They both told me I’ll be back fighting again by December! I can’t wait!

torn titty muscle eh? sounds painful
Can someone please tell me how you tear a pectoral muscle, when you’re as chest strong as Alves is? The only way I could see that happening to a dude like that, was if he tried to max bench, and tore a muscle. And, if that’s the case, then is he making up a cover story, saying he injured it in training? Sounds like a weight training incident. I don’t get fools who want a huge chest for fighting purposes.
Pectoral tears are usually the result of too much strain on the tendon. I’m not sure if Alves is juicing, but it is not uncommon for bodybuilders and powerlifters to tear their pecs. The reason is that, while certain steroids will increase muscle strength, they do NOT increase tendon strength. The end result is a muscle that can lift more than the tendon can handle…resulting in a tear.
Biggest mistake Dana made was doing medical plan. Bruised titties, hangnail amputations. Fighters are pussies.
These guys beat the shit out of themselves and each other. You’re crazy man.
Who cares!!!
Alves is a beast…Can’t wait for him to get back.. Get some wrestling and forget that jiujitsu bs and you will be the CHAMP.
Alves all day son!
