On last weeks episode of TUF Brazil the Middleweights took centre stage and Cezar Mutante defeated Macarrao in the second round via a guillotine choke. Team Belfort now with a (4-0) lead seem to have the competition under control. If you have not had the chance to catch up with this weeks episode look away now.
Team Belfort is confident and currently lead the competition (4-0) the show opens with the team talking about the possibility of winning all eight of the opening bouts. On the other side Team Wanderlei has not lost confidence despite still being without a win.
As we head to the fight announcement Vitor says that he & Wanderlei have agreed to another Featherweight fight oppose to the Middleweights, Vitor also congratulates both fighters from the previous week as well as commenting on Team Wanderlei’s toughness. Wanderlei is unimpressed and is growing sick of Belfort’s speeches.
This weeks fight pick from Team Belfort Hugo “Wolverine” Viana against Marcos Vinicius Vina from Team Wanderlei.
We learn some information about this weeks competitors Hugo “Wolverine” is a physiotherapist and says his fighting spirit comes from his mother and intelligence comes from his father. Vina had been working from age twelve prior to fighting and informs us he is spiritual and tries to give back to his community.
At the weigh ins both men make the 145 pound limit.
Team Belforts Hugo “Wolverine”(5-0) vs. Team Wanderlei’s Marcos Vinicius Vina (19-3-1)
ROUND 1
Wolverine lands first with a combo and Vina looks to tie him up and land some knees, both fighters battle in the clinch on the cage before they break. After they break Wolverine lands an overhand right and Vina stumbles and falls to his back, Vina attempts to throw some upkicks and Wolverine lands some kicks to the legs of the downed opponent before Vina gets back to his feet. Wolverine lands another combo and looks the more advanced striker, Vina begins to fight on the front foot and is now stalking his opponent taking some leg kicks in the process. Vina lands a nice knee before being taken down before the end of the first round.
ROUND 2
Both men circle with Vina landing first in this round but his low kick gets countered with punches from Wolverine. Wolverine seems to have found his range getting in and out fast in comparison to Vina who seems to be off the pace. However Vina manages to work a takedown. Wolverine manages to make it back to his feet and both fighters trade blows in the centre. Wolverine looks to be tiring as Vina stalks him landing some knees and punches. Wolverine is throwing two punch combos but they are doing little damage & Vina lands a big shot that sends Wolverines mouth piece flying before the end of the round. This one goes to the judges.
Hugo “Wolverine” defeats Vina via unanimous decision (20-18, 20-18, 20-18)
Team Belfort now have a (5-0) lead and feel they could do a clean sweep, Team Wanderlei are disappointed and felt the fight was one they could have potentially won if their fighter had listened to their advice during the bout.
The fight which is now left in the Featherweight competition is between the joker of the house from Team Belfort Gasparzinho vs. Team Wanderlei’s number one pick Rony Jason. Both fighters are friends and train together and are wondering why they were matched up however both men hug and know what must be done.
The episode ends with a surprise visit from Light Heavyweight contender Lyoto Machida who tells the fighters that their time in the sport is short and to make the most of it.
