The Ultimate Fighter Brazil Episode 10 Recap | UFC News
By Jamie McAllister
On last weeks episode the final bout of the quarter finals took place with Delson “Pe De Chumbo” Heleno of Team Wanderlei being defeated by Sergio “Serginho” Moraes of Team Belfort via rear-naked-choke in the first round. Due to Team Belfort dominating the competition with 7 of 8 semi-final spots the teams had to be re-shuffled.
At the start of this weeks episode the coaches try to remain positive after last weeks shake up, Marcos Vinicius “Vina” Borges Pancini, Renee Forte and Delson “Pe de Chumbo” Heleno, all eliminated from the tournament, will move over to Team Belfort & winners Thiago “Bodao” de Oliveira Perpetuo, Sergio “Serginho” Moraes and Godofredo “Pepey” de Oliveira make the move to Team Wanderlei.
After the changes to both teams are official the bouts for the semi-finals are announced for both the Featherweights and the Middleweights. Firstly in the Middleweight division Moraes vs. Daniel Sarafian & Thiago Bodao vs. Cezar “Mutante” Ferreira. Featherweights Hugo “Wolverine” Viana vs. Rony Jason & Pepey vs. Rodrigo Damm. The first semi-final bout will be contested between Pepey & Rodrigo Damm.
Damm has fought for many promotions such as Strikeforce, Sengoku, bodogFIGHT. He has also faced Strikeforce top contender Jorge Masvidal & now Champion Gilbert Melendez. Everyone in the house is aware of Damm’s credentials. Damm is predominantly a grappler and Wanderlei knows Pepey’s jiu-jitsu is his strength and it could very well be neutralized by Damm’s grappling skills, so he’s predicting a tough match-up.
We move back to the house and Damm is in lots of pain due to a back problem or injury he may have sustained during the competition, however he does not want to receive treatment as he thinks this will result in his elimination from the competition. His team mates talk him into receiving treatment for the injury and Pepey also states he would like Damm to receive treatment as he does not want a free pass to the finals of the competition.
The next morning back at the house we find out that Damm has suffered kidney damage due to dehydration and must be eliminated from the competition. This means a replacement will be brought in for him and someone will be getting a second crack at the competition, “Vina” Borges Pancini is the man who will be returning and he thanks Dana & the UFC for giving him the opportunity again.
TEAM WANDERLEI’S GODOFREDO “PEPEY” (8-0) VS. TEAM VITOR’S MARCOS VINICIUS “VINA” BORGES PANCINI (19-3-1)
(The fight is scheduled for three rounds)
As the round begins it is Pepey who drives Vina to the cage and lands the takedown Vina however has guard and opens up his guard and sweeps Pepey gaining top position, Pepey is staying very active from the bottom attempting a Kimura and then moving to an armbar however both attempts are unsuccessful. Pepey continues to stay active however Vina begins to have some success from the top landing some powerful shots, Pepey finally manages to lock up a Kimura he can’t finish with it however he uses it to sweep his opponent and gain top position. Both fighters scramble and the fight returns to the feet, Pepey leaps in on an attempt for a leg-lock however Vina avoids the wild submission attempt and nearly takes the back of Pepey who escapes with Vina now on the top position Pepey attempts another Kimura before the end of the round.
Pepey again immediately goes for the takedown and is successful Vina has full guard and Pepey reigns down with some shots while attempting to pass the guard. Pepey then attempts to take the back however Vina manages to avoid the transition and gains the top position, although on the bottom Pepey is being very active and outworking Vina. Pepey locks up the kimura again and uses it to sweep and cant finish however switches to the armbar and manages to finish Vina.
Winner Pepey via Armbar (Round 2)
It’s an emotional moment for Pepey who celebrates with his new team and coach, and is the first man to score a spot in the finals of the competition. On the other side of things Vina now has his arm in a sling and Belfort tries to comfort him.
Next week in the competition its the coaches challenge as well as the first semi-final bout in the Middleweight competition with Sergio “Seginho” Moraes vs. Daniel Sarafian.
