The Ultimate Fighter 18 Tryout Details Released by UFC | UFC NEWS
So you want to be a fighter? Well, here is your chance to prove yourself to the UFC.
The UFC has just officially released the details regarding its next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” via its trusty Twitter account.
The organization stated that “The Ultimate Fighter 18” will be holding open tryouts on April 15th in Las Vegas for prospective male AND female bantamweight hopefuls at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino. Registration begins at 8 a.m. PT local time on the day of the tryouts.
It was announced at the end of last week that this upcoming season would be the first ever to have female coaches as well as competitors as UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey will coach opposite of the winner between Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano in their April 13th TUF 17 Finale bout.
At the open tryouts fighters will be asked to display their striking and grappling skills to UFC President Dana White and matchmakers Joe Silva and Sean Shelby. If they advance beyond the initial stage of the tryouts they are then interviewed by the show’s producers and then must pass a medical screening before becoming a part of the next cast of TUF. The UFC requires each contestant to have at least three pro fights, must have a winning record and must be at least 21 years old.
“The Ultimate Fighter” debuted in 2005 and has become a springboard for the careers of more than 100 fighters and has produced MMA champions such as Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, and Matt Serra as well as superstars such as Michael Bisping, Nate and Nick Diaz, and Diego Sanchez, just to name a few. The last season to showcase bantamweights was TUF season 14 when John Dodson emerged as the winner. Since then Dodson has fought (and lost a razor sharp decision) for the UFC flyweight title.
“The Ultimate Fighter 18” is expected to start airing in the fall of 2013. For more information regarding the open tryouts for TUF 18 here is the official press release from the UFC: http://www.ufc.com/news/tuf-18-tryouts-in-las-vegas-april-18
