Evans / Jones Clash | The Team You Built Is Mine Now Says Jones

By George Deutsch:
Ultimate Insider host Jon Anik sat down with the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and heated rival and former training partner Rashad Evans recently, and it didn’t take long for sparks to fly between the two competitors, particularly in regard to Evans’ exit from trainer Greg Jackson’s New Mexico-based training camp.

Jones: [Greg] spoke so highly of Rashad. He really did everything he could do to keep some type of rapport.

Evans: He did everything? But he didn’t even give me a call and talk to me. Everything? He did everything! But he couldn’t even do the simplest thing. He couldn’t even pick up the phone to say “Hey, let’s talk about this.”

Jones: On the other hand, you have Rashad who is bashing the program, the history…

Evans: The history? I made that history! What are you talking about? I helped make that history. You came into it. Don’t talk about the history when you have no roots in the history. I helped make Greg Jackson. I helped make him the reason why you even wanted to come there and train.

Jones: That team is my team now.

The two men discussed strategies and how both of them training under Jackson has given them insight into each other’s game plans.

Jones: I’ll tell you to your face. Rashad’s way of winning this fight is his huge right hand, or trying to get me down round after round. I know the ways that I could lose this fight. I’m not naïve to my weaknesses. But at the same time, I’m a wrestler too… And I have way more technique on my feet… I know the way I can lose, and I’m training for that.

Evans: It’s such a different experience when you’re in there with me. When you’re in there with me, I get you to skip to my Lou. Skip to my Lou! You’re gonna do exactly what I want you to do, and that’s just the bottom line… The sooner you come to realize it, the more comfortable you’ll be with the results.

Jones: I feel like I’m just getting started. That’s the thing. And you’re at the end. Because I said so. And I’m gonna prove that you are. Call that “cocky.”

The two rivals will face off at UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans on April 21 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rashad should be more humble after machida made him do the stanky leg and the fish out of water like two fights ago

    • Greg says:

And in turn, Jones humbled Machida pretty good. Most. Gruesome. Submission. Ever.

      • pat says:

Jones turned machida into a crash test dummy

        • Greg says:

He just dropped the guy. Splat. It was embarassing, much like when Evans got KTFO by Machida. That screen grab of Evans face during the knockout is awful to look at.

        • Rel says:

why would that be embarrassing? he fought his heart out. he’s a fighter, chances are you’ll get dropped, get subbed or even get knocked out cold, and there’s nothing to be embarrassed about cause that’s the risk of being a fighter.

        • duncan says:

did machida win the first round? joe rogan was talking about how that first round made jones look human even though he won. i could of swarn i saw jones tap to a triangle choke on tuf also. its annoying when people have no idea what theyre talking about. read up on greg jackson and his strategy. jones uses high risk high reward techniques cause of his reach and to keep him unpredictable so he doesnt get knocked out with his garbage standup. machida, sub rampage, sub, rua got beat by ground strikes not the two strikes while barely up against the cage, hamill ground and pound, vera ground and pound. matushenko* ground and pound. i would like to see jones stand up with jds. why do you think hes at light heavy, prob greg jackson taking advice from art of war. never fight on an even battlefield

        • Greg says:

Duncan, not sure who you’re saying needs to “read up,” but I think Rogan has a point in that Machida did have a pretty decent first round IMO.

  2. HyLyfe808 says:

    Why read this?

    Just watch the video!

  3. &; says:

I am really starting to dislike Jones. That guy would be so much more likeable if he didn’t open his mouth.

    • Greg says:

He talks about being humble and a preacher’s son and all that, and then he talks about how awesome he is and how nobody can handle his skill sets. He will fall at some point, and Evans is his toughest test to date.

      • Tyler says:

Muhammad Ali fell too, but he established himself the best in the sport before he did. Why would we show a “non-confident” side, its strategic error. He says in this article that he is not naive of his weaknesses. This dude is good, and he’s the shit, fuck haters straight up. A fighter is suppose to know he can beat somebody. Maybe not when he takes the fight, but when he is already promoting it, he should be deep enough in to training to know he can win. People who hate on JBJ are like peeps who hate on the likes Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, or GSP…Full of fucking shit

    • Turkeykneck fun chav says:

lol he has to talk and promote the fight, its part of his contract.
you will also find that ufc have purposefully put him on this pedestal to get higher ratings as everyone loves a villain.

      people fall for it.

this “brother” business is nonesense, Rashad had already left the camp and started on jones.

it couldnt be more obviously scripted, just at the time when fox were in bids to take over UFC Airing and it made the deal look more attractive for the UFC. This fight is all anyone is talking about and really its just petty bullshit

  5. ed sores says:

stfu and fight! ufc is gay now cause they try so hard to sell fights with these bullsh*t drama. nobody cares! the fans just want to see fights! do the taking in the cage period! p.s dana is all about the money not the fighter… true story.

    • Dw says:

If its so gay don’t watch it then you fucking moron.. Go watch Pokemon you fucking noob

      • Calvin says:

noob? gtfo mofo we dont need that gay shit here i get what ed over there is saying look at all the promos of 2012 its all a storyline like “two fighters on the edge of a title shot… just got the fight they never wanted. Gsp is out now condit will face diaz” like wtf who cares

  6. @DannyUFC_ says:

Evans is no where near his end!!! He will take jones down again and again and he will prove he is a true champion because he will winn via TKO

    • Calvin says:

i see jones losing by crucifix because phil davis barely got out of those imagine jones with his long arms at least davis had a big chest to help give strength out but jones is just long which can screw him if jones wins ill be amazed because i just feel rashad can put a better game plan

  7. Mike Hawk says:

All you jones dick riders are in for a surprise. Did you not see how scared jones got after machida put some hands on him?! Rashad tko 4th rd. stick that in your juice box and suck it!!!

  8. Ruben says:

Jones eats bowls of dicks for breakfast

  9. Mwill says:

I could hear Rashad’s butt cheeks and throat starting to tighten up when Jon looked right at him and said, “you’re at the end and I’m going to prove it by what I do to you”. Jon was not fucking around and you can tell that he believes that whole heartedly! Rashad looked scared like the hype of the fight was gone and now he knows he is in for a long ass whooping!!!

  10. Kawikthegeek says:

“stick that in your juice box and suck it” IS the best line ever!
