Teixeira Comments On Rampage And Why He Thinks Shogun Fight Never Happened | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
Glover Teixeira in an interview with Sherdog.

Teixeira is currently on a sixteen fight winning streak in his last bout he defeated Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 146. For his next UFC bout he is set to face Rampage Jackson.

“I knew more or less what would happen. They had offered me this fight and I accepted right away, as I accepted Shogun.”

Teixeira comments on his game-plan for his next opponent and it seems like it will be a crowd pleaser with both men looking to stand.

“I’m going out with him in the standup. I have to be smart and not stand still, move, fight the right fight. But, I’ll work on the strategy with my coaches.”

Shogun and his team seemed to be avoiding the bout with Teixeira and Dana White even stated Shogun would rather be cut than fight Teixeira.

“I don’t think it’s something from Shogun. He’s not guilty. It should be something from the manager. Shogun has fought the best and wouldn’t have any reason to deny a fight against me. Leave that alone.”

He also comments on living in the United States and where his camp will be held.

“I’m living here in the U.S., in Danbury, Conn. I’m also in Las Vegas, and now I’m going to help Lyoto Machida in his camp to fight against Ryan Bader. My camp will be here. I just got a green card and I have to stay here in the country for six months. I was in Brazil for a long time; now, I have to stay here and comply with this rule.”

Finally Teixeira comments on returning to Brazil to compete in a UFC event.

“Wow, it’s the best thing! I went to both UFCs in Rio and was very happy with what I saw, the crowd. Now, I imagine the crowd thrilled that way again, but this time for my fight. But I can’t get too excited. You know how a fight is. You have to train and get ready.”

    Shogun tapped to strikes

  2. KIDD433 says:

This fight has all it needs to be a bad ass fight.Just hope Rampage actually brings the fight this time.and doesnt just show up for a fucken pay check.

    • everything that guy just said is bullshit says:

      Prepare to be disappointed.

Rampage doesn’t “bring the fight” anymore.

That Rampage is gone dude, and has been for a while. He squeaked by Jardine and Hamill and had absolutely nothing for Bader. Rampage in his prime was one of the best. Then he just checked out. He doesn’t want it anymore, and once that happens it’s over for a fighter. While I think Rampage still has the skills and physical ability, I think he gets his ass kicked in this fight by a hungry talented fighter that wants it a whole lot more and has his best days in front of him.

  3. NickTheSpikkk says:

Jones tapped out to self control and alcohol.
    Nick Diaz won 1st, 2nd and 5th.
    Just stating facts thats all.

  4. B-rad says:

Im glad to see Glover talk about the whole Shogun issue. He knows what the real deal was and not Dana openin his fat trap just to make headlines (again) He probably knows he will face Shogun one day, maybe after the Rampage fight

    • 757 says:

Pay them more Dana you have made enough. If you took care of the fighters financially they would fight anyone you wanted. They have to make a living and do it quick because of the damage they take. Pay them appropriately for what they do and the fights would happen… cheap son of a bitch

      • Mr. Rusk says:

The Fuck does pay have to do with Shogun not wanting to be someone’s 2nd ufc fight. Shogun gets 0 if he wins and dashes any chance of another title run if he loses.

  5. Brandon says:

Shogun used to be a champion. Then he took a knee in the face.

Brock Lesnar used to be a UFC fighter. Then he took knees to the body.

Chad Mendes and Ellenberger used to be a contender. Then they took a knee in their faces.
