Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold wants Constantinos Philippou at UFC on FOX 7 | UFC News

Currently riding a nine-fight win streak, Luke Rockhold (10-1 MMA, 9-0 SF) is eager to prove his worth inside the UFC’s prestigious octagon and he already has some particular opponents in mind.

The final Strikeforce middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold, has requested a bout with Constantinos Philippou at UFC on FOX 7 in San Jose, California, on April 20, 2013, for his promotional debut. He also wouldn’t mind getting the chance to knockout Michael Bisping, too.

Luke Rockhold via MMA Fighting:

“I think Costa Philippou makes the most sense right now. He’s coming off a win, and I think he’s a good opponent. Let’s get it on at [UFC on FOX 7].”

Constantinos Philippou (12-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) is currently riding a five-fight win streak, with his most recent victory coming over top contender Tim Boetsch at UFC 155 last month.

Rockhold also stated his desire to knockout fellow middleweight contender Michael Bisping :

“I want Bisping to stay on the up and up so I can knock him out, but I want Belfort to win because that would open a path to Anderson [Silva]. I want the fight that gets me to Anderson as fast as I can. I believe I can fight him like no one else can. I want that opportunity because I believe I’m the No. 1 contender. I want to fight Silva before Weidman does because I think he might beat him. I want to debut in the Bay Area. I’m a Bay Area boy. So if anyone wants to step up, that would be great.”

Rockhold hopes to join fellow Strikeforce imports Gilbert Melendez and Daniel Cormier who are already scheduled for bouts on the UFC on FOX 7 card set for April 20 in San Jose, California.

Michael bisping…not a very smart move, he would beat you easily.

  2. WTF says:

a Strikeforce champ calling out someone who is not even top 5 in the UFC, goes to show how credible Strikeforce championships really are

I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss ALL of the current Strikeforce champs, but I can’t say I follow Rockhold’s (or his camp’s) logic on calling out Phillipou. Sonnen is obviously already booked to fight Jon Jones and Weidman is on the shelf with an injury for a little bit, but Munoz and Okami are still floating around out there. Regardless, I don’t think Rockhold will reach the same status he had in Strikeforce in the UFC. If Phillipou comes out and flattens him, it’s back to the end of the line.

Bisbing Will Serve Rockhold Ass On A Plater N Weidman Is A Overated loser Dat Just Aint Met His Match Yet….

He should call out lombard. Oh nevermind then he would get destroyed. I’d rather see lombard vs philippou. That would be a true war. Wish Leben would have won so he could fight one of those guys.

  5. Time To Wrestle says:

Champion to Champion fight. Feed Andy to The Rock. Silva needs to go that dude is ***ckin’ OLD!!

  6. confucius says:

yeah “time to wrestle” get silva out because hes old. Makes alot of sense ya fucking twit. just have the greatest fighter of all time take a hike because hes old. lets disregarding breaking every record in UFC history. sometimes i think MMA fans are not too bright.

  7. Kenny powers says:

Wow, wouldn’t he want a few more fights before getting brutally knocked out by Anderson? He should pace himself, any of the top 5 guys will own this guy

  8. Dee says:

Rockhold isn’t even that good. Let him fight Silva. It’ll be an easy pay day. Listen people made such a big deal out of him winning the title, but Jacare hurt him numerous times. If they were to fight today, Jacare would kill him. Strikeforce did everything they could to keep him from rematching with Jacare. Saying that, if Jacare was beating the breaks off him with his limited arsenal what would Constantino or Silva do? They would freaking destroy the crap out the dude. He’s another Jake Shields but with a better stand up.
