Stephen Thompson vs. Besam Yousef set for UFC 154 in Montreal | UFC News

By: Chris Taylor

A welterweight bout between Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Besam Yousef (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has been added to the UFC 154 card in Montreal.

Thompson made an immediate impact in his UFC debut in February at UFC 143, when he knocked out Dan Stittgen in the opening bout of the card. That head kick KO earned Stephen “Knockout of the Night” honors and left many fans eagerly anticipating his next bout. The highly decorated kickboxer, Thompson, lost his next bout via unanimous decision to TUF vet Matt Brown at UFC 145 in Atlanta. The loss was the first of Thompson’s MMA career and it was evident afterward that Stephen had to improve both his ground game and takedown defense.

Yousef made his UFC debut in his native Sweden at the ”UFC on FUEL TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva” event this past April. Whether it was octagon jitters or the pressure of fighting in his home town of Stockholm, the bout proved to be to much for Yousef, as he was submitted by Norway’s Simeon Thoresen via rear-naked choke in the second round. Before signing with the UFC, Yousef had gone undefeated at 6-0 with five stoppages to his credit.

UFC 154 goes down November 17th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The main event of the evening will feature UFC welterweight champ George St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) taking on interim champ Carlos Condit (28-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) in a match to unify the belts. The co-main event is being slated as a “number 1 contender’s bout” between welterweights Johny Hendricks (13-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) and Martin Kampmann (20-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC).

UFC 154 now includes the following match ups:

  • Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. interim champ Carlos Condit (WW unifaction bout)
  • Johny Hendricks vs. Martin Kampmann
  • Mark Bocek vs. Rafael dos Anjos
  • Tom Lawlor vs. Francis Carmont
  • Mark Hominick vs. Pablo Garza
  • Stephen Thompson vs. Besam Yousef
  • Antonio Carvalho vs. Rodrigo Damm
