Stephan Bonnar: I've Been Hit By Bigger, Stronger Guys And Never Been Stopped | UFC NEWS

The Ultimate Fighting Championship organization returns to Rio this Saturday when the world’s greatest martial artist – long-reigning UFC middleweight king Anderson “The Spider” Silva – steps up to light heavyweight to face the bigger, stronger and teak tough contender Stephan “The American Psycho” Bonnar.

The three-round special attraction is the main event of the UFC 153 Pay-Per-View, which features six fights including a heavyweight showdown between Brazilian icon “Minotauro” Nogueira and Dave Herman and a chance to see two of the most exciting new talents in the UFC – Glover Teixeira and Erick Silva – take on serious tests in Fábio Maldonado and Jon Fitch respectively.

But it is the main event which has got the mixed martial arts world talking. Silva holds Embracing his underdog role, Bonnar has vowed to give the pound-for-pound kingpin “hell” in the Octagon® on Saturday night.

Pointing out that he has never been knocked out or submitted, the Las Vegas native said: “I’m going in there to fight him, not to just go in there and think it was cool to share an Octagon with Anderson Silva. I’m going to give everything, fight my heart out, like I did in the fight with Forrest Griffin (in 2005) which changed the sport. That’s what I bring to the cage that Anderson maybe hasn’t seen too many times in his career. I’ve got to give him a fight, I’m got to get him on the back foot, rough him up, and that’s what I’m going to do.

“I’ve been hit by bigger, stronger guys and never been stopped. I mean, look at every fight I’ve ever had – I’ve been hit with lots of big shots but I get up and keep coming. Anderson is so damn good, but no-one has ever walked through me and I will keep coming at him no matter what he throws my way.”

Bonnar can be taken at his word. He is an attack-minded fighter – and seven years’ worth of statistics indicate Bonnar will go after Silva from the opening bell.

According to official stats from FightMetric, the American Psycho has landed more strikes in the Octagon than any light heavyweight in UFC history not named Tito Ortiz or Forrest Griffin, he has the fourth best takedown accuracy in the division at 44.7% and has attempted to finish fights with submissions more than any fighter in 205 pound history with the lone exception of Renato Sobral.

“I get in there any go after it,” the American Psycho said. “I don’t stall, I don’t get stood up (due to inactivity), I go out there any put it on my opponent and I am going to give Anderson Silva hell.

“Very rarely in life does a great opportunity come along for anyone. Getting the biggest shot of my career, when I had sort of retired, is kinda the story of my life. I’ve never really had the best of luck in my career. I’ve not had everything really fall into place for me. But now it really feels like all the stars are aligning just like it did on that magical night for the UFC back in 2005 when I fought Forrest Griffin for the first time.”

  1. Bitch ass Greg J says:

Yeah, that’s what most of Anderson Silva’s opponents say before each fight. Results are always the same. The Spider is jsut a notch above everyone else. Bonnar’s got heart, but so did Forrest and a lot of the guys who faced Silva.

  2. Mike b says:

There’s always a first time for everything bonnar.stephan is a very skilled fighter no doubt about that.but he has never faced a guy like Anderson silva.

  3. Zack says:

There is a first for everything. He says he’s never been knocked out and he’s faced bigger dudes. He must not know that all it takes is one well placed shot. It doesn’t have to be a bomb.

  4. The Truth says:

I have always been taught that speed = power. Just cause you’re a big dude doesn’t mean you hit hard. Bonnar has excellent skills but I wouldn’t say his hands are fast, and that is a bad match for Anderson’s movement and counter punches. I’d love to see a 3 round war, but my gut says Silva by 2nd round KO or ref stoppage. Being hit by bigger fighters is one thing, being hit by Anderson is another. One thing for sure, Stephan will bring the fight to Silva and for that he deserves respect.

  5. MrOuijji says:

What happened to main event fights being 5 rounds?

  6. g Rod says:

I got nothing personal against Bonnar but the ONLY reason he’s even inthis fight is cause Dana once again gives special treatment to the fighters who look right and light enough to be on the posters. Once again a dream for Dana Whiteboy to have another great white hope beat the black man. Just more unfair racist shit to get attention from the white mainstream media. Dana can’t even hide his.favoritism thats why he talks about bringing nazi-looking Lesnar back and talking about what a great guy Keith Jardine is, and how he wants to take him to dinner. So hes gonna buy Keith Jardine a steak dinner while Bobby Lashley has to eat a cold motherf*cking boloney sandwich for dinner?? You tellin me that shit is fair? You lose fights and have a wide nose like Kimbo Dana bounces you, but you got blond hair and bid eyelashes like that bitch Faber you can lose 10 times and your ass will keep getting title shots. No I’m not watchin this shit and F*uck Dana for all this unfair shit. F*uck the UFC!!

Someone has racial issues… Did you get picked last in dodgeball or something?? White girl turn you down at the prom?? Fights in the UFC have nothing to do with race. Besides “black” people aren’t black, they are brown. Anderson isn’t defending his title against Bonnar, it’s just another fight. Although he’s the greatest fighter of all time, if he was given a top 5 205er,it would be unfair to other 205ers climbing the ladder. Dana White doesn’t make the fights, that’s between Joe Silva and the fighters involved. I agree Faber gets too many title fights, but none of this has anything to do with race… Your living in a different time, not everything happens because of somones skin color anymore.

    • sidekix says:

Lol every time I see you post you’re ranting about racist shit calm down brotha man. Did you ever think he’s fighting Bonner cause most fighters are injured or already booked or don’t want to fight the best fighter in the world on short notice?

By the way all the non sense you spew is probably because you are racist.

    • brandon says:

@g-rod you are the most racist person on this sight. why dont you shut your ignorant mouth around a white dick and get off of mma sights because its apparent race is all you can talk about. please americans wise up and get rid of obama, he is destroying our country, and not because he is black

    • lol says:

Stephan Bonnar is hardly ‘the great white hope’, he has very little chance of beating Anderson and everybody knows it, including Dana! But, Bonnar is a real gent inside and outside of the octagon, and a man who has made a huge contribution to the sport, and personally I think he deserves this one last big fight. Whereas you, g Rod, need to get over the fact that your boyfriend ditched you for a white guy because he wasn’t such a whiny little b1tch.

    • You sir,are a moron says:

Seriously grod….go hang yourself and i mean that with every racial undertone possible..ill even buy you the rope since i know you dont have a job and cant afford it…i will even tie the noose for you

    • ChuckTaylors says:

g Rod has not quit evolved yet…just watch the movie Planet of the Apes.
g Rod gets so offended because he wants to be like Dana but can’t…and that’s what irks g Rod because he can’t be the boss of men lol

  7. Idiot gRod is back! says:

Enough of your racist bullsh!t gDog. You don’t belong here. Go suck a white d!ck, that’s all you want anyways. Dumbest person i have ever seen on this site. I hope you get raped by 10 skinheads you racist prick.

  8. g Rod says:

Just so ya’ll know, I like all types of dicks, not just white..i love ’em all

  9. Primo S says:

Stephan will soon learn that technique triumphs power.

  10. The Truth says:

g Rod, It is amazing how the people that demand respect are so unwilling to show any themselves. Hate is Hate no matter where it comes from. Be part of the solution, not the problem. It’s not Black vs White, It’s Good vs Evil. Neither of which cares what color your skin is. Pick a side, the choice is all yours…

  11. sauser says:

Bonnar is a beast. Bones Jones hit him with some bombs and he took them and kept coming. I really think this is going to be a much uglier fight than people realize. It wouldn’t surprise me if Silva wins by decision.

  12. Jeremy says:

who has he fought that hits harder than anderson? bigger guys sure , but who has he fought with as many ko victories?

  13. chevy says:

g rod is a complete idiot

  14. learntoread says:

I hope Bonnar comes out and leaves it all in the cage, he really has nothing to lose here. If he comes out and puts instant pressure on Silva, it could very well be an entertaining and exciting fight. If he comes out and acts hesitant and passive like both Griffin and Okami did, he’s in for a short night.

Obviously he has the skills to take Silva down, (although you could tell Anderson had worked diligently on his TD defense and guard during his last fight), if Bonnar can get the early TD it will be an interesting fight for sure.

  15. Josiah says:

bonnar cannot afford a technical striking match with silva, his a master in that area. a takedown will be most likely because of his size but silvas gonna let him pay for every failed attempt, so he has got to make it right with fewer attempts if not, his face will be a bloody mess for sure.

  16. Jason says:

I don’t think Bonner will win, but I don’t think he will get Knocked out. I really do believe his chin is that good, and has held up over the years. Unlike Forrest. Bones Jones hit him square with both punches and elbows to the jaw, and he kept on coming. I do think that Sikva could catch him in a submission tho. But really feel its not going to end by knockout

  17. bwash says:

First round lo or ref stoppage.
