Stephan Bonnar: “A Part Of Me Is In Awe” Of Anderson Silva | UFC “NEWS

“I’ve never been kneed like that. I couldn’t breathe at all. I couldn’t move. I was just crippled, waiting for my body to be able to get some air. It felt like an eternity and the ref stopped it. When I saw the fight, I was like, ‘Whoa, that was pretty quick.’ It felt like I was trying to breathe longer than that. The way he placed that knee and timed it, the little trip and push, the whole setup and transition, yeah, there’s a part of me that is in awe of him.”
“I’m definitely happy. I’m so thankful they gave me that fight. I’m apologetic that I didn’t do better but whatever. I’ve got to get over that. But I’m happy. I have nothing to be ashamed of. Losing sucks and it’s hard to swallow. I went in there with Anderson and followed my game plan and did what I had to do. That’s MMA. One little mistake, one little opening is all it takes. With a guy like Anderson Silva, that’s all he needs. He landed a perfect knee at a perfect time, and got the victory. Hats off to Anderson. I can honestly say I never had a fight where I look back and said I choked or didn’t come to fight or I wasn’t prepared. Even through terrible injuries and fighting sick, I still sucked it up and did my best. I have nothing to be ashamed of.”
After getting the chance of a lifetime in the UFC 153 main event against Anderson Silva, Stephan Bonnar failed to capture his career objective with a huge win over the best fighter in history.
A few short days later he appeared on popular MMA talk show, “The MMA Hour” to discuss his performance and explain his thoughts about the fight.

I am sure that Bonnar has been around for a long time and that he’s a dedicated fighter and kudos to the UFC for giving an underdog a bone but Bonnar did not deserve this fight ahead of some of the other fighters in the waiting.
Deserve?? This wasn’t a title fight, it was a last-minute fight to save a card that lost a few huge fights, in a weight class where Silva isn’t even champion, in a fight for no championship. What other contenders deserve a fight with nothing to gain but a certain loss? And what other light heavyweight will step up against Silva? No one except Chael Sonnen stepped up to Jon Jones, let alone Silva.

@gonzo. couldnt say it any better.
Nothing to be ashamed of Bonnar. We all expected nothing less than that anyway…
Great fight, another amazing showing by the Spider…ballet of violence sums it up perfectly.
All in all it was simply a glorified sparing session, no doubting that Bonnar is one tough ass sob but that fight was a joke.
any person that fights anderson silva gets made to look silly! would you get in the ring with silva?? i highly doubt it! so is it easy for you to sit behind your computer screen and say that the fight was a joke is just silly in itself, you have posted two comments and made yourself look like a joke, and how little you know about the sport! bonner steped up he took a extremly tough fight he knew the odds of beating anderson were slim and he stepped up fought his ass off and lost there is no shame in him having that fight! me personally i thought the whole card was awesome not one dull fight they were all good! so that being said maybe you should say something else stupid……. go on we know you want too!!
I’d fight him for that payday. I’ve been in a few fights and won some lost some like anyone, (I’d rather avoid any fight, but that wasn’t always an option) I know what can happen, I could handle getting ko’ed, I’ve had concussions, stitches etc. It’s not that bad, bruises heal.
For UFC “special favor to Dana” “save a card last minute” PPV main event pay I would gladly get my ass kicked by Silva to help put my daughter through college.
i think silva sees everything in slow motion?
Nothing to apologize about. I hope that Bonnar got some good money from this fight.
But concerning the timing of the knee, I remember my Savate teacher telling me that when he spars with advanced practionners, he always insists to keep the abs tight when going from close to large distance. If they don’t get that, he uses a kick to the solar plexus and they do understand the lesson lol
