Authentic Sports Management (Rashad Evans Management firm) today issued the following statement from “Suga” Rashad Evans regarding the Jones vs. Machida title fight:

“After my last fight against Tito Ortiz, I dislocated my right thumb, which required it to be set back in place and held with pins. 24 hours ago, my physician removed the pins. At that time, I learned that it would require another three weeks of rehabilitation before engaging in any exercise or training that would require the use of my hand.

Dana White and I spoke earlier today, and I fully understand his decision to put Machida against Jones for the title at UFC 140. Given the rehabilitation time I require for my dislocated thumb, I would not be 100 percent ready by December 10. The UFC has to keep making fights that entertain the fans. I would have done the same thing as Dana in his position. I’m asking for the fans to support me as I rehabilitate my hand, and I promise I will be back fighting very quickly.”

  1. doc says:

you should’ve taken the fight anyways, by any means necessary. to me, you’re a bitch. all that shit talking about him ducking and dodging over an injury and you pull a hand injury stunt? garbage. no fighter fights at 100%

    • spiritsplice says:

maybe seeing Rampage get submitted brought him to his senses

      • Rashad Ducking Out of Jones Fight says:

Have you all seen the latest Jones comments regarding Rashad dropping out of the fight? very interesting…MMAFIGHTING.COM has the Ariel Helwani exclusive..

    • Chris says:

I hate “Suga” as much as the next guy, but i think this is a legit injury.

      • RCS says:

i’ve seen pics of him in a splint. can’t stand the guy either but it’s not like he “changed his mind” and is fighting a new oppent after the fact.

        Jones can’t say the same

        • Rashad Ducking out of the Jones fight says:

dont’ fall for Rashad’s crap. he DISLOCATED his thumb, he didn’t BREAK it ! i know a guy who, while playing basketball, dislocated his elbow. dude, he was back playing the following week ! All Rashad said was he wouldn’t be 100% by Dec 10, WHEN WILL HE BE 100%? Dec 15? Jan 15? Way to be vague, Rashad…

        • Mike says:

The “I know a guy” argument. Nice choice.

First off, have you ever tried to fight with a dislocated thumb? Of course not, I’d be surprised if you ever typed with a dislocated thumb Keyboard Warrior.

Secondly, as much as I dislike Rashad(and trust me, I’d root for Jones over Rashad any day), you can’t say he’s ducking a fight after the injury shit Jones pulled.(Not saying it was ducking, but it certainly would be more so than this)

        • IknowMMA says:

dude mike…no hard feelings but this guy is right, are you telling me you dont think rashad is afraid to face jones? ill say he is petrified!
he should have taken the figth and thats just it, like doc said no fighter is fights @ a 100%
plus only need 3 weeks till he can train! man its still october! the fight is DEC 10th! COME ON! i broked my hand and after 4 1/2 weeks i was training hard and boxing again…HE IS ducking the fight and he knows it, wrost WE KNOW, thats why he ask for our “support”

      • Nate says:

I had the same injury from a car accident and guess what, I didn’t even miss work. This seems real sketchy to me.

        • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Do you fight for a living?

        • Mike says:

Unless you fight for a living, you can’t really compare the two friend. If I was going in to fight a guy widely considered the third best p4p fighter in the world, I would want to be 100 percent as well.

I’m one of the biggest Rashad critics around, but I say his excuse here is legit. Besides, we get a much more interesting match-up out of this anyways.

        • Dude... says:

No one outside of these fighter’s camp and associates really knows how bad the thumb injury is, right? Does anyone on the message boards really know? Did anyone really know at the time of Jones’ injury (outside of Jones’ people) really know what the doctor said? Do you, Mike? No, right? So how can you be so sure that Rashad is stating total, upfront, truths, and Bones was lying back then? None of us really know. We’re ALL bullshitters and keyboard warriors wanting to be heard and listened to. If you’re say you’re not, you’re a bullshitter by defintion.

        • Mike says:

Hey, I never said Jones was ducking the fight. I’m just saying that no one should be saying Rashad is after how the Jones situation played out. None of us anyways.

I don’t pretend to know anymore about their camps than the next person. That’s why I’m saying it dumb to make these accusations.

        • IknowMMA says:

hey MIKE!!!, you say you are Rashad biggest critic but all i hear is the sound or his ball over flopping on chin.

        • Rashad Ducking Out of Jones Fight says:

hey mike go read comments made by jones regarding rashad dropping out. interview by ariel helwani. jones is lying? was dana white lying to jones that rashad was going to fight in 140 knowing well that he wasn’t, then switching opponents on jones?
the vague-ass comments by rashad showed me that he was telling everything, which is lying by omission.

        • Rashad Ducking Out of Jones Fight says:

          he wasn’t telling everything..DAMN IT….lol

        • Mike says:

Why would comments made by Jones count for anything? It’s his opponent, who accused him of ducking a fight, of course he’s going to try and turn the tables in this scenario.

And Dana also tried to make Machida vs Davis, thinking Davis would be ready. After Davis said he wouldn’t be he cancelled the matchup. Dana doesn’t have 24/7 supervision on every fighter friend. He can make assumptions that turn out to be wrong.

      • 3ric says:

I love Rashad almost as much as I love Chael Sonnen.

      • DB says:

you pin a break not a dislocation…. he broke his thumb …. fighting jones with one incapacitated hand would be very far from 100%. He will be waiting after jones smashes machida

    • wut says:

I hope you’re a troll but sorry man, he is the one who is going in there fighting. it’s his job, not yours and you aren’t exactly Dana White. what exactly have you done? you’re just a fan man, your opinion doesn’t mean shit to him or any other professional fighter. a fighter sitting out a fight because of injury is so common, psychologically and physically you’ll be at a disadvantage going into the fight knowing you’re not in top shape. So keep your ignorant opinions to yourself.

    • TheDeen says:

shut up dude, u’d take the fight ahhaha doubt it. its the UFC light heavy weight title. don;t know if u fight at all but that sounds crazy

    • stipek says:

are you that retarded or what?, he should fight him regardless? so he should risk what would most likely be his last chance at a title shot to make some bag of douche on twitter happy? lol at you, you pathetic troll

and the difference between jone vs rashad at ufc 133 being scrapped is that there wasn’t a logical reason, for this fight there is, so get your facts straight, stop acting like a tough cunt on twitter, and never speak bullshit nonsense again

    • E says:

Too bad Jones said that he needed surgery so Rashad booked another fight…Then all of a sudden he didn’t need surgery and got the rampage fight….you sound stupid

      • Jmad says:

yea that was kind of suspicious, I guess all these people hating on Rashad have a selective memory about that. I’m not a huge fan of Rashad or Jones, I would say I like them equally so I’m not trying to get anyone’s back here but Jones pulling out then rescheduling was a lot more suspect than this.

  2. Axel39 says:

damm whatta downer, rashad’s a nice guy atleast hes not getting pissed at this even though its happened like 3 times

  3. Casper says:

all that shit talking about him ducking and dodging over an injury and you pull a hand injury stunt? garbage.

    • WUT says:

what is there an f*** echo? didnt the Doc fellow type the same GD thing a minute ago? what is this copy and paste day? or just a failed illusion of 2 different people commenting? first i like all 3 fighters but brother let me break your f*** thumb and then fight just an average let me get this right to please you he should take the fight and lose because he cant hit worth shyte against a probable hall of famer and THEN wait probably a couple years to fight for the strap again? all the while giving Jon an uneeded mental edge with win over Shad in a rematch? got 2 words..wake up!!! cant wreslte with no grip and punch umm no…fighting Jon youd better be ready without injury that changes your game.sore knee or elbow is one thing but thumb no thats every fighters bread and butter.

      • Rashad Ducking Out of Jones Fight says:

Thumb was “dislocated” not “broken.” Huge difference. but yeah if you gonna face Jones, you better be at 100%. All of Shogun’s fans were saying that Shogun wasn’t at 100%, and look what happened! Rampage said he was at 100%, and look what happened. Hey, wait a minute, it doesn’t matter if you’re at 100% or not, Jones will kick your ass REGARDLESS !

    • Eduardo says:

Your stupid, he’s been injured. His hand was wrapped after the Jones-Rampage fight when he went in the cage. Do you watch MMA?

    • Jmad says:

He had pins in his thumb DoucheTard, and when Jones pulled out of the fight, as soon as Rashad was scheduled to fight someone else, all of the sudden Jones didn’t need surgery. That’s a lot more shady than this is and I like both guys equally, I’m not taking sides, just being real.

  4. Leo says:

I can’t wait to see Bones slap that ugly ass smirk of Rashads face.

  5. MichaeL says:

Ya, except this is a real injury. Not a made up one that magically heals itself as soon as Rashad books another fight.

  6. deeee says:

why does machida get the title shot? he lost his last 2 fights he doesnt deserve it. at least to my unnderstandings

    • lolziez says:

uhh guess you didnt hear about his last fight

      • @Tan520Az says:

Beating Randy didnt warrant him getting a title shot! They should have given this fight to Dan Henderson and made the two brazilians fight it out for the next shot, but we know that wouldnt have happend so we re stuck with Bones and Machida, which i guess can be that bad considering if Bones smashes Machida we wont have to worry about him being stuck in the upper tier of the division when he cant beat a top contender.

        • Chris says:

You must mean Lyoto cant beat a top contender other than number 1 contender Rashad Evans…

        • Mike says:

UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans you mean (at the time)

        • @Tan520Az says:

This is a what have you done for me lately sport, and that was @ UFC 98, and getting KO’d by Shogun and losing a boring fight to Rampage doesnt spell Champion!

        • Mike says:

I can agree with that. But I wouldn’t say Rampage beat as much as he edged him out. If it was scored like how Pride fights were, Machida would’ve won without a doubt.

Though you’re right. Machida doesn’t deserve a shot.

But to say he can’t hang with the top contenders is ridiculous.

        • IknowMMA says:

          JUST SHUP UP

      • 3ric says:

The last one doesnt count thou.

        • @Tan520Az says:

was Randy a contender at the time? im not saying he isnt a bad ass i just dont think he is as great as some say,

        • @Tan520Az says:

@ Mike let me clarify i didnt mean he wasnt Top 10 i just dont think his name should be mentioned everytime there are title fight considerations!

    • El Charlie says:

He actually won his last fight against couture .. and people have been requesting this fight for quite some time now or at least have been talking about it. It was the next best thing to do. Makes sense from a market standpoint if you think about it. People will def pay to watch this fight. Not to mention both they’re skill sets are phenomenal. Its a better fight .. period!

    • jay says:

machida jus knocked out randy couture with a karate kid kick lmao, cant believe u missed that should have it

    • duvalpaul904 says:

i saw it.. lmfao!!!!! he steven segal kicked Randy in the chops!

  7. chon209 says:

rampage vs rashad 2 i would love to see this fight with a healty and conditioned rampage ….. JAPAN fingers crossed
yes carma is a bitch but really, you guys calling a pro fighter a bitch, I dissagree i think haters fall in that category

  8. GREGNOIR says:

I’m getting fed up of Rashad’s never ending injuries. He should be put to the bottom of the pile and prove himself again, fighting Ortiz was no proof he’s still at the top.
And yeah Machida does not deserve it either, Hendo should get the shot, he’d be the toughest opponent for Jones. Although It’s a good stylistic match up with Machida, be interesting to see how they both handle each others unorthodox styles.

  9. shoe says:

lol rashad actually has an injury, it was jones that was “nononono i need surgery. oh wait, you booked rashad vs. phil davis? oh ok my hand is fine now.”

  10. EpIc says:

i love suga rashad! i dont understand all u haters, he is an excelent fighter and has a great personality he puts up a fight every time he fights,,, AND he wins most of them. on a different side , i dont know if he can take bones though, what a beast that dude is!!

  11. Rik says:

    Do Wat u gota do

  12. ryu says:

it will be interesting to see what jones does to adapt to the evasive style of machida. with regard to the rashad fight, i think we can all agree rashad woulda lost, no disrespect intended. all of jones opponents so far have been aggressive fighters who push the action; lyoto is fights with the opposite style so it will be interesting to see how both fighters approach the fight. id put my money on jones tho if i had any :)

  13. rick235 says:

Dana White said that he would have cut Machida if he would have lost to Couture and now he gets a title shot? Jon Jones just beat the last 2 guys to defeat Machida (Rampage and Shogun) in the Octagon. This fight stinks.

  14. Rog says:

Funny how all the haters talk like they know it all, at least Rashad had surgery. As for people that get online calling fighters a bitch grow up. Really lets everyone know how much a puss you are. If you know so much or You are as bad as you think you are become a fighter yourself and really see what it’s about.

  15. Rani says:

I am way psyched to see Machida take on Jones… Think if someone can bring Jones down it´s him… His elusiveness and counter-striking and speed make him a hell of a contender… Go for it Lyoto!!!

  16. e says:

seems like rashad’s head is in the right place. never was a fan of rashad but best of luck and he’ll get his opportunity in due time.

  17. Anthony says:

I have no problem with Rashad at all and he has clearly taken this well. Good luck to him healing up. As for Machida v Jones… Will be an interesting match up because of Lyoto’s evasiveness – but I think Jones wrestling will be the key here which will see him beat Machida.

  18. mark says:

I hung with Rashad here in Florida right after his fight with Tito to all of you saying it is a fake injury I can say 100% it is not. as “ricky bobby” would say it was wrapped up like a gorditta

  19. Krtc says:

Not a huge Rashad fan but he’s a smart guy with a good head on his shoulders. He’s injuried, can’t fight, I think Jones will walk through Machida and out wrestle him. Then knock that good head right off Rashad’s neck lol.
Can’t hate the man for being injuried though

  20. BiggoTrav says:

The only thing more boring than his fights are his excuses not to.

  21. JDMartialArts says:

This is not rocket science…historically speacking, people duck Rashad. Quinton “I’m a little B*tch” Jackson ring a bell? He signed a contract to fight and then backed out…When has Rashad had to back out of a fight? Twice. Both against Bones. Why? Both for injury. Also, has everybody forgotten about Suga having to back out of a fight with Shogun? Why? Because he was hurt. Suga is over 32 years old, and his body isn’t what it once was. but still, you tell me who deserves the title shot? here are some numbers…
    Machida since losing belt: 1-1
Rampage since losing belt (Before the title fight with Bones): 4-1
    Griffin since losing belt: 2-2
    Rashad since losing belt: 3-0
Now…you tell me who deserves it most?

    • Creature says:

Henderson since losing belt 6-1 lol. Rashad deserves it, but his hand is still fucked, he will most likely fight Jones next anyway and the winner of Hendo/Shogun will get a title shot after Rashad. Hendo should have gotten this not Machida.

  22. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

I think Rashad is telling the truth. What does he have to gain from ducking? This isn’t ducking, this is a legitimate injury. He is already at a disadvantage height and reach wise. Why would he attempt to school Jones with a busted hand and limited training opportunities?… He literally has the best shot at beating Jones based on his excellent ground game and improved striking in the LHW division. Who is more well rounded besides Shogun in the LWH division to neutralize Jones reach?

    • Rashad Ducking out of the Jones fight says:

so you’re saying Shogun had a chance? oh yeah, a one hundred percent Shogun would have…………………whatever… did you read Jones’ comments regarding Rashad pulling out of the fight? All we need is for someone in the media to ask Dana White if Rashad really did ask to fight Jones at UFC 140. Because if Rashad did knowing well he wouldn’t be ready, why would he ask for the fight? Hmmmmmmmm.. Did you see Rashad’s face after Jones left the Octagon WHILE Rogan was still talking to Rashad? Rashad looked like his mommy took his Hulk Hogan doll away from him!

  23. SVUSO3 says:

Why everybody stay hating on Rashad for? Rashad is a Legit fighter and top 5 LHW. Everybody started hating him after TUF 10 leading to his fight with Rampage cuz Rampage was the fan favorite and forever will be one of the fans favorite fighters. Plus Rashad way more better then that fake ass Jon Jones too. Humble in the beginning got the belt, got cocky and talked like he was the best, people started hating on him, try and go back to being humble? Nah you fake.

  24. effyocouch says:

Am I the only one who thinks Machida might have a shot? His counter attacks are viscous, so if he can dodge or slip out of the way of some of those bones jabs, get inside and through some combinations where Jones’ reach would mean nothing with him being so close, he might actually have a shot.

And as already stated, all of you calling fighters bitches need to get off the computer, do some training, and see what it’s like before you open your mouths. I bet if you put in even half the effort these guys do you’d still say fuck it and call it quits, because honestly, that’s what happens to most of the people that start. When new guys come into the academy I’m at, all jacked and ready to go, then get stomped by an 18 year old girl who’s a blue belt in BJJ, they just quit. Moral of the story: get some training and fights under your belt, and at least try to accomplish what these guys have instead of just fighting local shows, before insulting them with your own stupidity.

    • KIKI says:

And i think machida fights best when the opponent has an unorthodox style of fighting, Rashad for example. Very interesting fight though, hope machida wins, i think his fighting style and his techniques are very entertaining to watch.

  25. HawaiiRN808 says:

Lose money. Why you scared for?!

  26. zack says:

Mommy mommy!!!! Whats the matter suga? I hurteted my thumb mommy!!!! PUSSYBOY
