STATEMENT FROM "SUGA" RASHAD EVANS REGARDING JONES vs. MACHIDA
Authentic Sports Management (Rashad Evans Management firm) today issued the following statement from “Suga” Rashad Evans regarding the Jones vs. Machida title fight:
“After my last fight against Tito Ortiz, I dislocated my right thumb, which required it to be set back in place and held with pins. 24 hours ago, my physician removed the pins. At that time, I learned that it would require another three weeks of rehabilitation before engaging in any exercise or training that would require the use of my hand.
Dana White and I spoke earlier today, and I fully understand his decision to put Machida against Jones for the title at UFC 140. Given the rehabilitation time I require for my dislocated thumb, I would not be 100 percent ready by December 10. The UFC has to keep making fights that entertain the fans. I would have done the same thing as Dana in his position. I’m asking for the fans to support me as I rehabilitate my hand, and I promise I will be back fighting very quickly.”

Secondly, as much as I dislike Rashad(and trust me, I’d root for Jones over Rashad any day), you can’t say he’s ducking a fight after the injury shit Jones pulled.(Not saying it was ducking, but it certainly would be more so than this)

I had the same injury from a car accident and guess what, I didn’t even miss work. This seems real sketchy to me.

Unless you fight for a living, you can’t really compare the two friend. If I was going in to fight a guy widely considered the third best p4p fighter in the world, I would want to be 100 percent as well.
I’m one of the biggest Rashad critics around, but I say his excuse here is legit. Besides, we get a much more interesting match-up out of this anyways.
No one outside of these fighter’s camp and associates really knows how bad the thumb injury is, right? Does anyone on the message boards really know? Did anyone really know at the time of Jones’ injury (outside of Jones’ people) really know what the doctor said? Do you, Mike? No, right? So how can you be so sure that Rashad is stating total, upfront, truths, and Bones was lying back then? None of us really know. And Dana also tried to make Machida vs Davis, thinking Davis would be ready. After Davis said he wouldn’t be he cancelled the matchup. Dana doesn’t have 24/7 supervision on every fighter friend. He can make assumptions that turn out to be wrong.

Beating Randy didnt warrant him getting a title shot! They should have given this fight to Dan Henderson and made the two brazilians fight it out for the next shot, but we know that wouldnt have happend so we re stuck with Bones and Machida, which i guess can be that bad considering if Bones smashes Machida we wont have to worry about him being stuck in the upper tier of the division when he cant beat a top contender.

He actually won his last fight against couture .. and people have been requesting this fight for quite some time now or at least have been talking about it. It was the next best thing to do. Makes sense from a market standpoint if you think about it. People will def pay to watch this fight. Not to mention both they’re skill sets are phenomenal. Its a better fight .. period!

I’m getting fed up of Rashad’s never ending injuries. He should be put to the bottom of the pile and prove himself again, fighting Ortiz was no proof he’s still at the top.
And yeah Machida does not deserve it either, Hendo should get the shot, he’d be the toughest opponent for Jones. Although It’s a good stylistic match up with Machida, be interesting to see how they both handle each others unorthodox styles.

I have no problem with Rashad at all and he has clearly taken this well. Good luck to him healing up. As for Machida v Jones… Will be an interesting match up because of Lyoto’s evasiveness – but I think Jones wrestling will be the key here which will see him beat Machida.

Rampage since losing belt (Before the title fight with Bones): 4-1
Griffin since losing belt: 2-2
Rashad since losing belt: 3-0
Now…you tell me who deserves it most?

Am I the only one who thinks Machida might have a shot? His counter attacks are viscous, so if he can dodge or slip out of the way of some of those bones jabs, get inside and through some combinations where Jones’ reach would mean nothing with him being so close, he might actually have a shot.
And as already stated, all of you calling fighters bitches need to get off the computer, do some training, and see what it’s like before you open your mouths. I bet if you put in even half the effort these guys do you’d still say **** it and call it quits, because honestly, that’s what happens to most of the people that start. When new guys come into the academy I’m at, all jacked and ready to go, then get stomped by an 18 year old girl who’s a blue belt in BJJ, they just quit. Moral of the story: get some training and fights under your belt, and at least try to accomplish what these guys have instead of just fighting local shows, before insulting them with your own stupidity.

And i think machida fights best when the opponent has an unorthodox style of fighting, Rashad for example. Very interesting fight though, hope machida wins, i think his fighting style and his techniques are very entertaining to watch.
