Sonnen Think His fight With Jon Jones May Have Been Stopped Too Early

“I do think it was stopped too early. I was surprised when they stopped the fight. Anytime you’re in that type of competition, whether you agree with it or you don’t agree with it, you get up and you walk out because those are the rules. I’ve won plenty of fights where they stopped them too early, so it goes both ways. Yes, it was stopped too early. You’ve got to understand, I stayed to fight. I walked out of the ring. That’s more than I can say for Jon Jones. I stayed to fight. His little piggy ran to the market. And I’m supposed to somehow be impressed because he got a couple of takedowns?… I’d sure like to do it again.”

During a recent Q&A at last weekends UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas, Chael Sonnen confirmed to fans that he believes his title shot against Jon Jones was stopped early by the referee.

Agree or disagree?

  1. Will says:

OK… let’s play devil’s advocate. Let’s believe that the fight was stopped too early… Does anyone really believe that would make a difference if the fought a 2nd time?

  2. Night-Wind says:

Well after the second fight he would say “it was stopped too early”.

  3. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

If the ref didn’t stop it the fight would be stopped cause of Jones’ severed toe.

  4. JiuJitsuHeyZues says:

maybe next time, stop it late…

  5. Nando says:

I do agree with Mr.Sonnen, that the fight was stopped to early. I thought he was defending himself. However I think Mr.Sonnen is to blame for the early stoppage, he stayed down to long and let Jones get in some clean shots that from the refs perspective may have looked worse than it was. Mr.Sonnen needed to work his way up.
