Sonnen: Chris Weidman That Beat Silva at UFC 162 Was The ‘worst Weidman I’ve ever seen’

“Let’s not forget, Chris Weidman dominated him on the ground and then got up and dominated on the feet. This was not a close fight. It was also the worst Chris Weidman I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen Chris Weidman fight so poorly. He slowed down significantly. When he was on top in the first round, it was off a very sloppy takedown. He gave up position going for a very reckless submission. He was taking a couple of kicks. He just didn’t fight very well, and he still dominated and ended with a finish inside seven minutes.

You have to understand, in the history of combat, never, not one time ever, ever, ever has a rematch ever favored the older fighter. There’s a ten-year age gap here. It will be amazing if Anderson can beat him.

Anderson Silva is a very smart fighter. He’s very skilled. He’s very experienced. I just don’t think he wants to be in there. They asked him right after he lost, and he openly said ‘my time as champion is done.’ And I believe him.”

In THIS RECENT INTERVIEW, Chael Sonnen discussed a number of topics with the media in England this week. Including the pending rematch between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.

One Comment to Sonnen: Chris Weidman That Beat Silva at UFC 162 Was The ‘worst Weidman I’ve ever seen’

  1. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

I saw Weidman taking Silva down in the first and not able to do jack shit with it. The last part of the first was already all Anderson. The second round Weidman tried a few takedowns and all were stuffed and he got punished for it. Silva dominated the second round and started toying with Weidman. That was his downfall, because Weidman threw a weird flurry and then Silva leaned right into a half assed left hook/jab by Weidman.
    .
Weidman is going to get punished in the rematch.

  2. UFC 84 Forever says:

There seems to be two people who watched that fight. People who saw Weidman go into the fight and score all the points despite not necessarily putting huge danger on Silva. And then there are fans who apparently saw a fight in which Silva was somehow dominating Weidman? What fight where those people watching? I’m honestly curious. I saw the fight from perspective A not B. Weidman won the first round (not that it even matters, he knocked Silva out cold…) Despite that I do think it’s entirely possible for Silva to win this fight, there’s just too many variables to base the result of this fight on the result of the last fight.

  3. 757 says:

Agree with you Sasquatch. Silva got knocked out. You delusional people are looking really stupid. They fought and AS got knocked out period.

  4. GRT 3000 says:

The spider tried bringing Weidman into his web, but the kid wasn’t having it; plain and simple. He waited for Silva to showboat and he capitalized. Silva is just going to have to do it the old fashioned way – square off and fight.

  5. Sean Michael says:

Actually Chael, BJ Penn was a favorite over Frankie Edgar in their rematch.
