Anderson Silva Sides With Wanderlei Silva Over Vitor Belfort

By Evan Stoumbelis:
UFC Middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva took some time recently to give his thoughts on the coaches of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva and Vitor “the Phenom” Belfort.
The coaches are set to square off at UFC 147 in Brazil, where Anderson Silva will be defending his title against long time rival, Chael Sonnen in the main event. These coaches fought back in 1998 in Rio De Janeiro, where “The Phenom” decimated “The Axe Murderer” and won the fight in a stunning 44 seconds via knockout.
The Spider said “Vitor Belfort has skills above the average fighter in the division, but he is not unbeatable, neither is Wanderlei. It will be a hard fight for both.
Wanderlei is a very hard worker and has a lot of grit, we’ve seen it a million times, Wanderlei history in the MMA cannot be overlooked. The first thing they need to do is respect eachother.” Said in classic Anderson Silva fashion, never forgetting respect.
Anderson went on to say that he would be cheering for Wanderlei, and that if Wanderlei asked him to help train, he would absolutely go. “Look, regardless of what we have done with our careers me, Wanderlei, Shogun, Rafael Cordeiro, and all other athletes that came from ChuteBox, we have this warrior spirit so the only way to beat us is by knockout or submission, otherwise its impossible,” Says Anderson.
“Wanderlei is working with the right people, and in a good condition, well trained and with a clear head, it is very difficult to beat him.”

“Vitor Belfort has skills above the average fighter in the division, but he is not unbeatable”
Of coarse he’s not unbeatable, you almost knocked his head off.
lmao oh man your comment had me rolling on the floor laughing…. thanks it made my day
The only thing holding Wandy back is his weak chin. Not a lack of cardio, heart or technique but the ability to take a hard punch. He guarded his chin well against Cung and I expect the same in his upcoming fight against Vitor. I wouldn’t be surprised if he proves us wrong again.
Exactly, Wanderlei actually said he changed up his style for that fight and most likely start to fight this way from now on cause his old style is getting him knocked out! Instead of running straight em swinging like a madman for the KO, he was more on the defense then attacked when he saw the openings.. I think he will have to do the same thing with Vitor.. Hope Wanderlei can pull of the win though!
wandys punch resistence is his only fault…no suprise a silva said that he obviously doesent want a rematch with belfort
When you’ve beaten pretty much everyone in your division, and you only have a few fights left before you want to retire, and want to have your remaining fights against top guys, why would you want to waste it on rematches with guys you have decisively beaten already? Of course with the exception of Sonnen. That one is clearly personal. Lol. I’m sure if there really is no one left for Silva, Belfort goes on a win streak again, and the fans want to see a rematch, then I can see Anderson taking that fight. Or even a rematch with Hendo. Man, I’d even be interested to see a Hendo vs Belfort rematch. Or, if Wandy beats Belfort, a rubber match with Henderson.
It’s hard to bet against Vitor when you know his opponent is going to stand with him but Wanderlei still has some the best standup in MMA and although his chin is suspect I believe if he patient and waits for openings the way he did with Le he can pull off the upset.
I will say this now and you can hold me to it. I dont see anyone in the ufc ever beating anderson silva standing. Especially not vitor. it’s just not happening. The only way to beat anderson is to grind out a decision like cheal wants to do or to submit him. No one can strike with him in the ufc. Everyone who did try and standup with him, he made them look like amateurs eventho they were skilled strikers. Ofc anything can happen, but to say that anderson is affraid of vitor is just so ignorant. And I really dont want to hear about the excuse. ohh I got surprised by his frontkick. Well thats your own fault. anderson used it alot of times. you could even use it in the first ufc game when you played him. Vitor and all his fans are just full of excuses making no sense. “Ohh I got caught, I will beat him next time” guess what anderson catches guys and he will do it to vitor again!
Anderson has some unorthodox striking that catches even the most seasoned fighters off-guard. He’s just that good.
By the way who else thinks TUF Brazil delivers more exciting fights than TUF US? Ok…except for the pepey-galeto fight.
Man, I have a short attention span when it comes to the internet. I would rather read an article than watch a video because the speed in which I read trumps my ADD.
I’ll give it a shot this week.
Chutebox. Those were the days.
