Silva says UFC is asking him to step in against Mousasi
While the rumors continue to swirl around the severity of Alexander Gustafsson’s injury and if he will be medically cleared to fight Gegard Mousasi at UFC on Fuel 9 in Sweden, none other than Wanderlei Silva has chimed in saying he has been asked to step in.
According to a recent Tweet by Silva, the UFC has approached the fan-favorite veteran about squaring off with Mousasi:
“UFC news my guys fight Saturday agains Musasi!!! What you think? UFC just contact me about Saturday,UFC acabeu de me ligar o que acha?”
Three minutes late, ‘The Ax Murderer” tweeted:
“I am read I don’t have any injure and training a lot,to treinadinho e sem lesao nenhuma!!!”
MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani is relaying the following message from UFC president Dana White, who says that Gustafsson vs. Mousasi is still on. Helwani tweeted this from White:
“Gus is still fighting! It’s April fools. Stay of twitter and the net today!”
Mousasi himself joined in on Twitter and just recently posted:
“@wandfc hey mr Silva, if this is true and you are ready to fight me than I accept the fight, It’s an honor for me Much respect for you.”
Silva is coming off a dynamic fight and victory over Brian Stann during the main event of UFC on Fuel 8 in Japan’s Saitama Super Arena. No mandatory medical suspensions were announced after the event, since Japan has no main athletic commission.
If he were to fight on Saturday, it would be Silva’s second straight fight at 205 after a run at 185.
Silva (35-12) currently hosts a 4-5 record in the promotion, not counting his two previous UFC losses to Tito Ortiz in 2000 and Vitor Belfort in 1998.
