Shogun Talks Jones And Says He Has More Information On Him And Is Working Towards Beating Him In A Rematch | UFC News
By Jamie McAllister
Shogun Rua comments in an interview with Yahoo Sports.
Shogun faces Brandon Vera in his next bout at UFC on Fox: Shogun vs. Vera and with an impressive victory he could find himself back at the front of line for a title shot.
Back at UFC 128 in March 2011 Shogun attempted to defend his Light-Heavyweight Title against Jon Jones unsuccessfully. Rua was dominated by Jones before being finished in the third round however Shogun now thinks the amount of video and information on Jones gives him a chance of defeating him in a rematch.
“That’s the fight I want. I want my title back. I think he is much easier to study Jon Jones now… last time the guy was a brand new style in the UFC. Now we’ve seen him fight other guys and have more information what he’s going to do in the Octagon. I am working towards beating him in a rematch.”

School Vera and another poor bloke, then would love to see a rematch.
dont overlook vera shogun, you should beat vera but if you get complacent and not take vera seriously you may end up with shin bone across your nose.
if that happens you will not be rematching JBJ
You know what?
Shogun just read your comment and immediately re-focused himself. It’s a good thing you told him to because, I don’t know what would’ve happened if you didn’t.
God bless you and your great idea pretend to talk to a fighter through the comment section in the namesake of another fighter. Genius.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
yeah, i think vera also read this comment. now he’s pissed at shogun. thanks for writing directly to the fighters. they read this stuff daily and take note. and shogun says, “thanks” for helping him refocus his attention toward vera. great job, dogfart. you should corner shogun.
For real. Vera can strike that’s for sure
durty looks!
Hell yes when that fight was going down therewas really no talk of rua and he was the champ, maybe a 50 50 shot he could take out jones we all know what happened to the dragon in there rematch.
If Rua comes back for the title shot, this picture should be in the promo for sure.
If Shogun beat’s Vera and Machida beats Bader make the two square off and the winner gets Jones! I would absolutely love to see Shogun vs Jones 2 & The trilogy between Machida & Shogun, Make it happen Dana!
Shogun is a legend. No disrespect to a true legend, but beating a pretty irrelevant (at the time) Vera doesn’t exactly launch you to Jones. Focus on Whats ahead of you… its a tough division.
Well said. You know it may just be me but this is it as far as a ufc title goes for shogun. Were really starting to see the leaders of the younger fighters emerge and just like shogun did early on these young fighters are gonna embarress fighters like rich Franklin or a perfect example would be bj vs rory. Rory has the ability to beat bj in impressive fashion and if bj has no answer for him and gets embarrassed I dont think we see bj come back as a title contender, just super fights if the pay is right.
They said the winner WILL become number 1 contender. I know what you’re thinking.. I am thinking the same thing.
I want to see Machida give Rashad another case of stanky legs. Why doesn’t UFC make Rashad fight Machida or Shogun or new guy in UFC that destroyed steroid boy Kyle Kingsbury recently
If he does get the rematch, he needs to use what he does best, leg kicks! Jones is so tall and lanky he does have some chicken legs..But he went after Jon and tried to brawl with him and that didnt go so well, get thru Vera first!!
Leg kicks= getting taken down
Like aldo vs Faber?
I would love to see that rematch.shogun is a legend.i remember when I was watching the pride grand prix 2005 shogun ****ing destroyed his competition and became the victor.but the sport is not the same no more u got these up and coming young talents that’s starting to take out these legends.vera is a great striker so shogun has to concentrate on the fight that’s in front of him before thinking about the rematch with jones.
another fag such pussies on this site
there is a short list of Brazilians that are not scared of bones shogun is one
Take out jones front leg and then someone can atleast get in on him but even then he’s dangerous
To the fighters who say that they got everything figured out now and the rematch will be so much better: what makes them think that JBJ (or whomever the fighter may be) will fight the same or hasn’t figured them out even more so? Especially with Jones, this guy has been an animal since he came into the UFC and hasn’t lost anything. If anything, he is smarter and fighting smarter with ever-improving talents.
Jones may lose one day (a legitimate loss~not a Hamill loss), but it will be because he got caught, not because of someone who is better than he is in fighting. There is no one at this time.
Shogun atleast couldnt do any worse than last time
Vera, Shogun and Machida has a possibility at Jones based on performance… No discredit to Machida or Shogun, as I think they are right on the door step again with win over Vera or Bader… But to incorporate Vera or Bader as a possibility is ridiculous.. Both Machida and Shogun have lost to Jones as well.. what the **** happened to any sort of mention for Gustavsson?? The guy has proved he should be the number one contender. If he loses to Jones, THEN something like a performance win amongst the top contenders should matter
I think Bader is more in the mix thab Vera. He had his face smashed by Thiago Silva last and even if he beats Shogun (IF…) I still don’t think that’s enough. Bader beats Machida then he’d be on a 3 fight win streak with the last 2 Rampage and Machida. That seems like more than enough for a shot to me…
That is what happened last time. Thought he was gonna walk through bones and got an ass whuppin instead. Now it’s Vera’s turn.
