Rustam Khabilov recently sat down with Sherdog.com for an interview, where they discussed everything from his upcoming fight with Benson Henderson, to name mix-ups, to what we can expect from the Dagestani-born fighter in the future.
(You can read the full interview here. Specific quotes via Bloodyelbow.com.)
On His upcoming fight with Benson Henderson:
“[Benson Henderson] is good fight for me. I don’t think is good fight for him. Is good fight for me.”
And does beating Benson Henderson make him the #1 contender?
“I don’t know maybe, maybe no. I’m number 15 now, I don’t think I coming for number 1 if I win, maybe.”
The confusion with Khabib Nurmagomedov:
“My last name and is first name little bit looks same…Is okay, for me I don’t worry about this. I change my Twitter. I said “RustamTheTiger” because everybody think it is Khabib [Nurmagomedov].”
What to expect in his future fights:
“Not only wrestling, not only suplex. I want to make now new plan, new game plan for every fight. It is not good same plan for every fight. People, I think, like.”
Khabilov exploded onto the scene by exploding Vinc Pichel off of the mat, and onto the back of his neck, with three vicious suplexes… the third of which removed him from his consciousness.
Khabilov will take on Benson “Smooth” Henderson on June 7th in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card, which will emanate out of Khabilov’s newly found hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
