Rousey vs. Tate II Set For UFC 168 In December
UFC President Dana White announced Monday that the biggest rematch in WMMA history will take place at the promotions end of the year event in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC 168 is set to take place December 28th at a venue that has yet to be determined. What is presumed to be the main event, a rematch between UFC Womens bantamweight division champion Ronda Rousey and Meisha Tate, will be the second womens title fight in UFC history.
The rematch between Rousey and Tate will conclude the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, as both women are opposing coaches on TUF 18, which is expected to debut this fall. While these two athletes are sure to boost ratings and continue to build WMMA in the US, Rousey’s original opponent was expected to be Cat Zingano, who defeated Tate in impressive fashion to claim the role as opposing coach and No. 1 contender. As fate would have it, Zingano was doomed by the dreaded injury bug before the show could begin filming. As most of the MMA universe agree, the UFC could have chose a more worthy opponent for Rousey, but the show must go on and the bitter rivalry between Tate and Rousey will make for a great season of TUF, not to mention this will mark the first ever co-ed fighter house.
Just ask Dana White, who told the media on Monday, “It’s not reality bullshit, it’s complete and total hatred. They hate each other.” White also stated, “I’m telling you, they hate each other so bad. You’re going to see a lot of blur marks. Every fucking time she is seeing her, (Ronda) is flipping (Tate) off and getting in her face.”
It appears that viewers should be expecting fireworks for TUF 18, which is set to debut on FOX Sports 1 September 4th, and the rematch between Ronda Rousey and Meisha Tate will follow shortly after on PPV at UFC 168 this December.
