George Roop set to face Antonio “Pato” Carvalho at UFC 149 in Calgary

By Jason Kindschy:
Featherweight veteran George Roop has been slated to compete against Canadian Antonio “Pato” Carvalho at UFC 149.
A verbal agreement has been reached for the fight to take place at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 21st. UFC Featherweight champ Jose Aldo is set to defend his belt against a currently undetermined opponent the same night.
UFC 149′s main card is set to air on pay-per-view, with FX and Facebook airing the prelims. Roop and Carvalho’s clash will likely be on the undercard.
Roop is coming off a close fought split-decision loss to Hatsu Hioki and a devastating TKO loss to former top contender Cub Swanson in Chicago at UFC on FOX 2. Roop, a contestant on the “Ultimate Fighter 8” series, looks to get his first win since his impressive body-shot KO of Josh Grispi.
Carvalho was set to make his UFC debut at UFC 134 against newcomer Yuri Alcantara. Unfortunately an injury during his training camp forced Antonio out of the bout. He now looks to spoil Roop’s comeback party with one of his own, following his recent loss to Filipe Arantes via unanimous decision in his official UFC debut at UFC 142 in Brazil. Previous to his loss in Rio de Janeiro, “Pato” was coming off a three fight win streak, including a decision victory against former UFC fighter Douglas Evans.
The updated card for UFC 149 includes the following bouts:
- Champ Jose Aldo vs. TBD (for featherweight championship)
-Bryan Caraway vs. Mitch Gagnon
-Mitch Clarke vs. Anton Kuivanen
-Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Thiago Alves
-Antonio Carvalho vs. George Roop
-Court McGee vs. Nick Ring*
