Ronda Rousey to her Mom: “Give me One Year” | UFC NEWS

Ronda Rousey is all the rave right now. She is getting more media attention for her first fight in the UFC than any other fighter in the promotion’s history. This can be debated as good or bad all day long by fans and so-called MMA experts. One important person in Rousey’s life was not sure about her job choice; her own mother.
Rousey’s mother was working at the University of Southern California at the time she decided to focus on a career in Mixed Martial Arts. Her mother was not excited or happy about this decision. “I remember that conversation very well and I expected her reaction to be as such” Rousey said. “She wanted to help me go to school and stuff like that, and um I just asked her to give me one year.”
Rousey definitely made the right decision. She made her debut on March 23, 2011 and won the Women’s Bantamweight Strikeforce title on March 3, 2012, just barely meeting the one year time frame. Her mother has never told her she made the right decision, but that makes no difference to Rousey.
After winning the title against Meisha Tate, Rousey’s mother told her all she needed to hear, “She said that she was extremely proud of me.” Rousey looks to continue proving she made the right decision when taking on Liz Carmouche for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title this Saturday, February 23rd, at UFC 157.
