Ronda Rousey Reportedly Signs With UFC | MMA News

Per TMZ.com, Ronda Rousey has apparently become the first ever woman to sign a contract with the UFC which would make her the first ever woman and the first Women’s champion in the organization as well.

The Celebrity News site, TMZ.com broke the story today as sources to the site have told them that she has signed a contract with the UFC and that prospective opponents are already being drawn upon to welcome the woman’s MMA phenom into the largest MMA organization in the world in a fight that will be the biggest of Rousey’s, and her eventual opponent’s, career.

Her first fight will be historic and the event will be nothing short of spectacular as she makes the biggest leap in woman’s MMA, not to discount WMMA pioneers such as Gina Carano, or even Rousey’s current nemesis, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. This is simply the highest a fighter can go, and with the backing of the UFC, Rousey will become a legend of WMMA, without question.

Rousey has been an MMA icon for the past years, rocketing into the forefront of the fighting world with her famous (or infamous for her opponents) string of first-round armbar wins and her magnetic personality. Also, Rousey has long had a strong friendship with UFC president Dana White who saw what WMMA could accomplish with Rousey at the forefront. Now it appears the two have teamed up to bring the long awaited legitimacy to WMMA.

This is all speculation as of now, although reliable sources have confirmed the news to TMZ.com.

Also, the site states that the recently announced January 12th Strikeforce card will be the last for the organization before being dissolved in to the UFC. THe last card features three title fights as well as the return of Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion, Daniel Cormier.

This news almost comes as no surprise as Strikeforce has seen a massive migration of top stars to the UFC and has only held five events in the year 2012 while canceling several more.

If these rumors are true, then we can look forward to the UFC owning no less than 80% of the premier talent in the world of MMA and that is being very conservative. A monopoly is a better word but for this sport, a monopoly is exactly what it needs to make sure the best fighters in the world fight each other to prove to the fans and themselves alike, who is among the best fighters on the planet.

And now, with a women’s division headed by Rousey, we can also see the best that WMMA has to offer in an extremely underrated portion of MMA.

  1. krafty11 says:

Good for her. Now, who is she gonna fight?

  2. stevo the great says:

It’s about god damn time!!! I knew this was in the works…..that’s why Dana has been up Ronda’s ass! He wants the Rousey/Cyborg fight under UFC banner. I so called this.

    • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

Please Dana don’t sign that ROID-FREAK Cyborg. At least pretend you don’t want steroids in the UFC. On that note keep that ROIDER Nate “THE CHEAT” marquardt out of the UFC also.

Rousey vs Sarah McMann should be the first womans title fight in UFC

  3. Ray says:

    “..who is she gonna fight?”

    Rousey v. Jones superfight!

  4. killaj671 says:

Womens MMA Div. > Fly Weight Div.

  5. KOSHCHEKS BLEACHED TAINT says:

Yeah. She’ll be the “Face of womens MMA” like Carano until “Guyborg” busts up that pretty face and gets the belt. She ain’t faced a striker like Christine.

  6. KIDD433 says:

Does anyone else think this is a bad idea.I think its gonna make the cards weaker.Theres been a few weak cards this year as is,just imagine those with another boring ass womens fight.Im just saying…I spend alot of $ on this shit

    • BiggoTrav says:

I’m fortunate enough to live in Kansas City and get into the Invicta fights for free. Let me tell you, there is a TON of exciting female fighters chomping at the bit for this kind of exposure. It will make the cards much more interesting and exciting in my opinion.

    • The Dream says:

That is what they have facebook prelims for. I find it hard to believe that they will put a womans fight that isnt a championship fight on television of any form for a long time. Like you said if thats the case I wont be putting my money up. Cards are already weaker but thats fine because we just dont know any of them yet it is going to take time to get to know everyone. A few years ago I could name every person on their roster but today I dont have a clue who half of em are. I wouldnt worry about it even making the prelims on fuel just yet.

  7. Jon says:

Will we see Florian come out of retirement to fight for this belt too?

  8. Xaninho says:

Who didn’t see this coming? Strikeforce is almost bled out, this was the plan from the beginning when UFC bought Strikeforce.

  9. BJPennslittlebrother says:

Well thats the UFC gone down the pan, i’ve followed UFC since UFC30, have enjoyed every minute and even enjoyed some not so great cards but if they are going to have a womens division and have scanky Rousey with only a one trick pony move then i’ll be turning off, i know one less viewer/fan means f$$k all to Mr White but women should not be allowed in the UFC, keep them in Strikeforce or some other less MMA programming. Rant over and anyone who wants to shoot me down over my comments then screw you buddy because i.m intitled to me freedom of speech.

    • ThaGreenBandit says:

y u mad, bro? Sounds like you’re bitter towards women that posess more athletic prowess than little ol’ u!That “one trick pony” would bust your ass, bro! The girls must’ve always got picked before you did to be on the team, and all these years later, you still hold a grudge. Pathetic. Go upstairs and give your moms a hug so u can feel better

      • BJPennslittlebrother says:

Firstly i’m not mad. Secondly i am happly married so not bitter towards women. Thirdly my mother died years ago. Fourthly are we related? because you seem to be calling me ‘bro’? I think if you were a true fan of MMA then you’d agree with my comments that the UFC is no place for women and that they should stay in lower MMA programming.

        • Bstraw says:

A true fan of MMA should not support women fighting in the UFC? Well, I am a life long fighter, coach and all around fight fan. So, I don’t know how that would qualify me in your book. But, I have watched many girls/women put on better fights than men. Skill is skill. if you are to ignorant to appreciate that then I don’t know what to tell you. If you don’t want to watch them, don’t.

    • dw420 says:

And using the same freedom.. I feel obligated to say that you are an idiot. Sex has nothing to do with skill when it comes to MMA..if men can fight at 135 pounds then so can women. The only reason they shouldn’t be under the UFC namebrand is lack of depth in the talent pool, but that will change when you get TUF Barbie.

  10. MikeCuster says:

Ariel Helwani already confirmed this. Tate has signed with the ufc as well.

  11. B-rad says:

Ok i get why he might want rousey and guyborg to fight in UFC, but what is after that? Im sorta ok with those 2 fighting cuz i would watch if it was ona fox card or something. But after they fight, whats next? I dont give a rats ass about womens mma to be honest, i hope they dont have WUFC lol that would be so wack

  12. Xaninho says:

I think it’s ok, but women’s mma is like women’s football. They can do it but it will never be the same quality as men. The only woman with sorta manly skills was Lucia Rijker.

  13. Not_Even says:

As if ever she had something to prove? Big D prolly likes to tap that ass *tsktsk*

  14. Trace says:
