Romero vs Brunson and Pichel vs Whiteley added to UFC Fight Night 35
UFC Officials recently informed fight fans that Middleweights Yoel Romero (6-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. DerekBrunson (11-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC, pictured) and lightweights Vinc Pichel (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) vs. Garett Whiteley (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) have been added to UFC Fight Night 35’s already stacked card.
UFC Fight Night 35 takes place Jan. 15 at Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. The night’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on BJPENN.COM.
At this time, the two bouts have not been specified if they will be on the main card or prelims.
Romero, is coming off a loss to Rafael Cavalcante in Strikeforce, looks for his third straight win in the UFC. The Olympic wrestler and American Top Team fighter’s past two victories over Clifford Starks and Ronny Markes have come by way of knockouts. Romero will be looking for his seventh knockout in seven career wins when he faces Brunson, a fellow Strikeforce vet who’s also coming off of two straight UFC victories. After four fights in Strikeforce, he’s picked up UFC wins over “The Crippler” Chris Leben and “BHue” Brian Houston.
Pichel, a semifinalist from “The Ultimate Fighter 15″ recently made his UFC debut suffering a devastating knockout loss to Rustam Khabilov at UFC TUF 16 Finale. “From Hell” racked up seven impressive knockouts in seven career wins before the loss. He now is matched up with Whiteley, who suffered his first defeat during his UFC debut against Alan Patrick in October at UFC Fight Night 29. Up to that point in his career, “Goodnight” had seven stoppages, four by way of knockout, in seven career wins.
