Robbie Lawler is not a new name in the UFC. In the early 2000’s Lawler made a hand full of appearances on the earlier UFC cards. However, back then he was just a young fighter trying to make in a tough game.
After some time with the late Strikeforce organization Lawler has finally found his way back to the UFC with a much sharper skill set than previously witnessed by fans.
It seems that all those years with Miletich Fighting Systems paid off. And rightfully so as he spend his days with the likes of Jens Pulver, Jeremy Horn, and of course Matt Hughes.
Its those years in between that Robbie credits his growth as a fighter. Now, it’s Lawler’s turn to show how much sharper he is as a fighter as he prepares to step into the Octagon with the man who many believe to be the rightful champ at 175 Johny Hendricks.
Lawler credits his maturity as a fighter now that prepares him the most for this challenge.
He went into further detail during a UFC 171 conference call on March 5th.
“I think now that I’ve matured, I’m ready to take that step and I’m embracing everything that has to do with being in the UFC. I’m ready to be out there in front of everyone and I’m ready to do what it takes to be a champion.”
Robbie has gone 3-0 since his return back to the UFC. However, this will mark the first title fight that Lawler will have ever competed in.
This is going to be a one for the ages as both combatants are hungry for the glory of becoming the first UFC welterweight title holder since GSP vacated his title. Both have dynamite in their hands and are very accurate and quick strikers. It will be very interesting to see how this one pans out.
