Roach Breaks Silence: ‘Dana White Dragged GSP Down’ & Out Of The ‘UFC Monopoly’

“He told me he wanted to take two years off and I told him two years was retirement. Let’s stick with one year right now and see how you feel and if you feel hungry enough to get back in there, we’ll do it. If not, we’ll call it a day. He had headaches and so forth. You don’t want to hear that. It’s really easy to make a decision after a tough fight like that and after Dana talking really bad about him, getting him depressed and so forth, dragging him down. Most promoters would try to build you back up, but Dana’s not that kind of cat. I’d think about going to another company if that was me, but UFC is a monopoly, it’s the only game in town. I’m sure if he wants to come back, Dana will be the first one to invite him.”

Take that Dana!

Famed boxing coach, Freddie Roach, breaks his silence on the GSP vs. UFC media banter and offers up his own assessment of the situation to Fight Hub TV.

Is Roach on the money, or is he talking out of place?

On the money. Doesn’t matter your reputation, you’re commitment, or loyalty. Disagree with Dana and he’ll slander the shit out of you and make you seem like the one in the wrong.

  2. team backfist says:

Can’t wait for another organization to catch up to the UFC and not sell out. Competing organizations are what will give the fighters more power over their fight path and wages. There’s already an underlying distaste by fans and fighters for the UFC; this will become the springboard for the fall of their monopoly.

What other promotions would you rather watch then the UFC? what is this “underlying distaste by fans and fighter” based on? I want to read more into this.

  3. T.Daddy says:

Cry me a river GSP… Hendricks made him retire.. period

  4. W. Mathew Drumm says:

I think that the UFC is going to soon outgrow daddy Dana’s hamhanded, backalley ball breaker style of management. The sooner it happens the better IMO.

  5. Elgin says:

Dana’s a fukn tool. He and the company could pay alot better. He’s on a power trip. But anyone that watches the sport already knows that.
