Rich Attonito steps in to meet Gunnar Nelson at UFC on FUEL TV 5 | UFC News
By: Chris Taylor
Rich Attonito (10-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has stepped in to replace an injured Pascal Krauss and will now fight Gunnar Nelson (9-0-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC on FUEL TV 5.
The former NCAA Division I wrestler, Attonito, joined the UFC after competing on “The Ultimate Fighter 11.” He won three of his first four fights in the octagon, including victories over Daniel Roberts and Rafael Natal. However, his most recent venture into the UFC octagon resulted in a TKO loss to Jake Hecht at UFC 140 this past December.
Rich now faces Nelson, who makes his UFC debut while sporting an undefeated record. After going to a draw in his mma debut, Nelson has now won nine consecutive fights, all by way of stoppage. The Renzo Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt, who also holds a karate black belt, has been fighting in the European fight circuit, but has fought just once since late 2010.
UFC on FUEL TV 5 is set for September 29 at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England. The main card airs live on FUEL TV following the prelims on Facebook. The event is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Stipe Miocic and Stefan Struve.
