Reza Madadi Still Not Jailed Following Sentencing In Burglary Case, Returns To MMA
In 2013, former UFC lightweight Reza Madadi found himself in some very hot water.
Taking the familiar mantra of ” the UFC doesn’t pay its lower-level fighters enough money!” to an entirely new level, Medadi was arrested in Sweden last year for an alleged “smash and grab” robbery. According to Swedish tabloid “Expressen“, Madadi and an associate allegedly broke into a designer handbag store and lifted over $150,000 worth of merchandise. Madadi was sentenced to 18 months in prison for this alleged crime, but has since appealed the decision and is awaiting his next day in court. The UFC wasn’t going to wait around for the dust to settle, however, and – in a move which shocked nobody - quickly released the fighter after the allegations surfaced.
While Madadi awaits his court date, MMAViking.com recently announced that he would be taking a fight under the Superior Challenge banner, where he was a mainstay prior to signing with the UFC. And although an opponent hasn’t been named as of yet, Madadi is scheduled to make his return to action on May 3rd.
We’ll keep you posted on any updates as they come.
