Report | Lesnar Causing Tension Between The WWE and UFC | UFC NEWS

WWE superstar turned former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar has been making some headlines recently. UFC president Dana White met with him at UFC 146 and it “couldn’t have gone worse”. But it’s still not over.

Lesnar is still in the middle of drama between the UFC and WWE. Lesnar’s appearance on RAW following his retirement from the octagon drew huge ratings. But after he met with Dana White, he has been written off the WWE programming and his expected return match against Triple H at SummerSlam is in question.

Bryan Alvarez of Figure Four Weekly has more on Lesnar and his WWE contract:

The WWE side almost universally claims that Brock has an iron-clad contract and that there is no way he could fight for UFC until that contract expires following WrestleMania 29 in April of 2013. On the UFC side, there are people who insist that his contract is non-exclusive (more than one source used the term “on loan to WWE”), and that he and White were discussing a potential fight during the meeting. Not everyone in UFC believes he’ll fight. Some believe that even if his WWE contract allowed it, his heart really isn’t into fighting and all of this is some sort of ploy by Lesnar to increase his bargaining power or leverage with WWE.

Geno Mrosko of Cageside Seats has his own thoughts on Lesnar:

All we can really tell here is Lesnar is definitely in business for himself. But that’s not exactly news. When he left UFC, he had one fight left on his contract but the understanding was that if he retired and wanted to go to WWE, White would allow him to do so. And why wouldn’t he? It seems interesting now, though, that Lesnar has dipped his toe back in the Octagon waters and perhaps gotten White’s hopes up for a return to fighting that hasn’t come to pass. That could be why folks are maintaining that Brock will return at some point soon. If White wanted to make a power play, theoretically, he could.
Even with new information here, I maintain my stance that Lesnar is simply leveraging himself for better treatment while he works with WWE. His career in fighting could still be lucrative but if he went back and was badly beaten, as he has been the last two times in the cage, it would badly damage his brand, perhaps beyond repair. And with his appeal already seemingly at a low point based on the Extreme Rules buyrate (and you know the right folks will spin it that way), he needs to maintain whatever appeal he still has left.

With big name UFC fighters dropping like flies from injury, Brock Lesnar would certainly be a huge draw business wise if he returned to the octagon.

Although frowned upon by many MMA fans for his lack of credentials, like it or not, Brock Lesnar is still a big name in MMA.

What would you think if the former “baddest man on the planet” eventually returned to the cage?

bj penn gonna get tooled by rory

  2. Fail Sonnen says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Lesnar come back if he chose to or was given the ability to start as a normal fighter. If he returns I’d like to see him start smaller. By that I mean lesser named opponents and work his way up a little. I think that would extremely benefit him by letting him get more experience and drive to work his way up. Top level competition has already shown they can walk through him. Have Lesnar come back and fight a few under cards guys like Struve and Kongo let him feel it out and see where he really fits in the division.

  3. majestyk says:

lesnar loses 3 st8 in ufc

  4. Kirk says:

Stick to wrestling. You got your ass handed to you enough in the octagon. Let’s face you were meant to be a big phony plug. Ps tell Vince he’s a douche.

  5. Tapitout21 says:

Cock Chesnar is an idiot. He’s not bigger than either company but Dana seems to have a serious man crush on him so he’s got a better chance of bamboozling him. Vince McMahon doesn’t give a shit who you are he’s shown time and again he will protect his brand above all else. Not to mention who really wants to see lesnar have another disappointing performance in the cage, although I love seeing him get embarrassed it’s not good for mma as whole….maybe he should fight pacquiao!!

  6. Ly-er says:

I’m so over the hype on Lesnar. In my eyes, I just see another Bob Sapp!!! Low-blow, I know! Hahaha

  7. 11thhour says:

Brock Lesnar is a douche all he does is slander his opponents befor his fights then gets smashed then tries to be respectful afterwards.. I wonder if he ever got around to having that burrito and corona after he nearly got murdered by Cain… HAH! He sucks.

  8. jbeamazing says:

Brock could still beat most at H W besides cain, jds, and overeem with just his wrestling alone
    DOES THAT MAKE YOU MAD

    • Noel says:

@jbeamazing Brock cowers n pussies out at a bat on the chin, the Carwin fight showed that maybe shocked Carwin to over throwing n gassing but Cain must have looked n laughed at that tape! Brock is a big athletic dude as shown in the Herring 1 punch dive but stay away JDS won’t hold back or miss like a WWE person stick with your $5m contract n go back chasing ponies or whatever u do on your ranch!

  9. stephen riddle says:

I do not like this wwe thing but he is still a big bad dude who for some reason changed his identity in the octagon, i would like to see him comeback if he cuts ties with that wrasslin shit. He goes from destroying frank mir and subbing carwin to losing to cain wtf happened!?

  10. Snoop says:

Lesnar was for real get over it..I hate him 2 but the fact is he defended his belt twice and won it in the first place..how many legends in mma cant say that??? n this is all to plug his wwe shit….n its working…look how this story and everything about Lesnar remains on mma sites

  11. Rodriguez says:

Lesnar no matter what would be a good competitor in MMA…he just needs to work on his stand up and ability to take hits. His wrestling is by far better than all of MMA and he is obviously stronger than all. Give him training time and maybe he could be the best.

  12. alex says:

note to the author, please explain who you’re talking about dropping like flies from injuries? who could brock lesnar possibly be replacing that just dropped like a fly?

    • Sean says:

Prob talkin about aldo, Cruz, bisping, alves, Gsp… Fighters that would be the headliner with big names that Lesnar vs someone would replace on a card. Self xplanatory if u follow MMA

    • Chris says:

LOL he doesn’t need to explain, use your brain a little bit dude. He didn’t say with all these heavyweights dropping they need a spot for him. What he was saying is that with all these injuries causing them to shuffle cards around and cancel big fights, it would be a huge help to the UFC to throw Lesnar on a card with it doesn’t matter who or what else is on the card. If you ever followed the UFC you would know Brock was there biggest PPV draw ever.

  13. Johnny says:

Oh 11thhour! Brown Pride don’t remember the ass whipping he gave Lesnar cause he got knocked the fuck out by Junior.

  14. JAke Sully says:

Hate people who chirp lesnar… whats the point? he won the belt on his fourth ever mma fight. How many mma fighters can say the won the most prestigous belt for the most prestigous mma organization in the fucken galaxy?

    Answer: 1, Brock Lesnar

  15. D-yan says:

this is gonna be like trying to convince favre to go back to football

  16. Chris says:

for all the people saying he sucks and he is overrated. How can you take away from the fact that he beat Couture, Mir, and Carwin(even though I think Carwin is the one who’s vastly overrated if anything) Couture at the time was in the top 10. Frank Mir has been in the top 10 for how many years now? and Carwin was also in the top at that point. And then he lost to Velasquez the most talented heavyweight in the UFC(and at the time undefeated), and Alistair Overeem who we all know is and was roided up. Not to mention Alistair is a problem for anybody in the world regardless. Brock probably can’t touch Cain ever, and he probably wouldn’t be able to beat Overeem. But outside of that Brock can absolutely hang with anybody.

    • Xaninho says:

Couture was a very small HW and in his 40’s, Mir underestimated him and Carwin is strong but not that good.

      • WWEandMMAFan says:

Like that stopped Couture from coming back out of retirement to whoop the shit out of Tim Sylvia and take the UFC HW title back home with him? Just like Lesnar, Couture was/is a phenomenon in the world of combat sports. Considering he did , in his 40’s, what so many have failed to do in their 20’s and 30’s! Couture beat legends to become one himself. And Brock beat that legend fair and square in the Octagon. After redeeming his submission loss by a viscious TKO win over Frank Mir. (One of the most dangerous, HW submission specialists on the planet.) Like Brock’s personality or not, he deserves respect for beating some top tier fighters in a very short amount of time! Sure he lost to Cain, a top 5 guy in any HW ranking, was undefeated at the time and an extremely talented wrestler himself. And then to Overeem, who is one of the BEST MMA HW strikers, ever. (While Alistair was possibly on PEDs) Not to mention Overeem beat him after Lesnar had live saving intestinal surgery. Let’s see anybody talking trash do that! I’m not a huge Lesnar fan but I am a big fan of The Natural and what he has accomplished. I don’t want people acting like he was a cake walk for Lesnar! Far from it.

  17. Wad says:

Why is this even an issue? Either Lesnar wants to fight for real in the UFC, or he wants to orchestrate a fight scene in the WWE. Putting UFC and WWE in the same sentence is just nonsense!

  18. Toby says:

This Article makes Brock Look like a money hungry SOB but when he went back to the WWE they played him as a money hungry SOB they had him do a lot of promos and stuff just to give him 1 match then in the storyline he quit, that was a couple of months ago and hes not suppose to return until August, and the WWE really preyed upon his career in the UFC, so they give Brock Lesner a farm boy competitor 1 or 2 matches a year and expect him to stay with WWE, 2 or 3 fights in the UFC is good but in WWE thats awful…..its really WWE whos causing all the tension. Brock Lesner didnt think that he could compete with the talent rich UFC so he went crawling back to the WWE where they pretty much used him as a temporary cashcow. I think that if he does come back to the UFC he should start at the bottom and work his way up so he can get more experienced and become a better fighter, that was the problem in the first place. He was a big name so he got the big names but he wasnt prepared for the competition……

  19. ryan says:

    Send Brock to strikeforce !!!!

  20. Michael hamlin says:

    Who cares about him !!!

  21. Spectacular theme, ultimately located the web site for great textures

  22. WWEandMMAFan says:

Yeah it’s gotta be him “playing sides” right? Not like he might be a FAN OF THE SPORT or anything?!!

  23. marcello316@yahoo.com says:

Man… this freaking clown man. If this guy ever returns to the ufc the ufc’s credibility will go to the toilet. Brock Lesnard has turn into a money machine, yes. Very popular dude, but when it comes to dishing a REAL ass kicking, he has no idea how to do it without first humping you to death… clown!!!!
