According to reports from Globo in Brazil, Junior dos Santos is departing from his long-time trainers and friends, Antonio Rodrigo and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

It seems that the former UFC heavyweight champion of the world has been absent from the Nogueira gym, and has instead spent his time at the rival Nova Uniao gym.

The report details how dos Santos’ trainer, Luis Dorea, has been encouraging the fighter to train at both Nova Uniao and the Nogueira gym during the past week; however, JDS has been absent from the gym as team Nogueira prepares for “Big Nog’s” bout with Roy Nelson (speculated for April).

Good move on Ciganos part, especially if he ever wants to beat Cain.

  2. Greg says:

I like what Nova Uniao has done with Barao and Aldo and hope that Penn comes out on fire against Edgar but I’m not sure this is a good move for him. Nova doesn’t have any other heavyweights for him to train with.

No doubt iron sharpens iron with Aldo/Barao of similar size; however, it’s the coaches and team ethics that will do good things for Junior.

I would’ve liked to see Junior move to a gym full of Olympic wrestlers, but hey, what do I know, I’m another internet know-it-all……. Let’s see, Junior is still #2 and Cain #1…Does Cigano want to be champ or not? Is he looking forward to being handled again? I digress..

    not a true story

  5. K3vbot says:

You’re never going to get someone to replicate what Cain can do with his size speed and wrestling. Nova Uniao at least builds champions so should be at the very least a good change of scenery
