Referee Josh Rosenthal Sentenced to 37 Months in Prison

By Christopher Murphy @MurphMMA

Earlier today, mixed martial arts referee Josh Rosenthal received a 37-month prison sentence with three years of probation and a $100 fee for pleading guilty to several drug charges.

Rosenthal was arrested in 2012 when federal agents raided a warehouse in Oakland, California.  There was reported to be over 1,000 marijuana plants valued at over $6 million.  In April of this year, Rosenthal plead guilty to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana and several other drug charges.

The sentence, issued by US District Court judge Saundra Brown Armstrong, reflects that recommended in a plea deal in which the government recommended 37 months in jail and five years of probation.  The final sentence matched the jail time and shortened the probation period to three years.

According to MMAFighting, who contacted Judge Armstrong’s office, Rosenthal has no possibility of parole.

Rosenthal is well-known to MMA fans, as he had officiated many high-profile fights including Anderson Silva’s first defeat of Chael Sonnen at UFC 117.

Thank god there’s no more marijuana around….

“FIVE YEARS FOR SOME WEED?!?” Shit is weak that he has to spend 3 years of his life for a plant. I just got on probation for a misdemeanor pariphenelia charge, and had to pay a little over 2 grand. It is a money grab.

Hey Douche-rak, ever hear of this thing called FREEDOM? It’s suppose to be big here in the US, but it’s not. Funny thing is, you can have all the guns you want. And you can kill people with guns. Hard to kill someone with weed. But if you wanted someone’s weed you could grab your gun and shoot them. Pretty fukked up country I’d say.

  5. Logi says:

This country has made weed legal then illegal. If I don’t like this country for the inconsistency that it has displayed then I’m well within my rights, being born here. And he IS sentenced to 5 YEARS considering the jail time and probation time. Learn to read.
