Ratings Report: Machida Proves He Can Draw On Fox Sports 1

Despite a fairly slow night of fights, which saw 10 different bouts go to a judge’s decision, UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi pulled in very strong ratings. According to MMA Payout, the event had an average viewership of 1.4 million viewers. This is the highest average for a UFC Fight Night Card since UFC Fight Night 26, which featured the UFC debuting on Fox Sports 1 with a loaded free card and an average of 1.78 million. In fact, it more than doubled the viewership of UFC fight Night 35, which only drew in an average of 629,000 viewers.

Why the card pulled such strong ratings is a bit of a mystery. It had strong competition in the Olympics and the NBA All Star game, and not a particularly strong line-up of fighters. The last time headliner Lyoto Machida headlined a card on free TV at UFC FN 30, the card view a paltry average of 122,000 viewers.

b/c it wasn’t boring ass Phil Davis on the card; Machida fought Mousassi which is a fight people want to see.
