Rashad Evans:’I do believe I can beat Anderson Silva’ | UFC NEWS

“It would be a lifestyle change, not just prefight stuff. The whole diet year-round would have to change. Naturally, my body goes to like 235 when I’m not consistently training. I’d have to change everything about my diet on a daily basis. If the opportunity were available, I would do so. One reason why I didn’t do it was, “Why would I make the drop to 185 if I’m in the same place I’m at at 205?” Why cut the extra 20 pounds? If it were a title shot or against a top contender or something that people want to see, then again, at the same time, I’m already at the top of my division. For me to go to 185, I’d have to start over and prove myself at 185. I am good at 205, but who’s to know how good I’d be at 185? There’s a lot of variables that would come into play. First thing’s first, I’d have to do a test cut and see how I feel there. That’d be some other options that I would think about as well if I would consider doing it. It’s a big question mark for me. Once I got past 30, my body started changing a bit. It used to be really easy to make 205 and now I have to be careful about supplements that can mess with my weight. I can be 227-230 without even trying. I’d have to get a dietitian or get on the Dolce Diet or something.

It would be a tremendous honor to have held the belt in two different division and also to beat Anderson Silva. I get excited every time I get a chance to watch him fight. When my career is said and done, i want to say I competed against some of the best guys in history. Fighting Anderson Silva is something for me, to say I went against the best ever. Fighting against that guy and beating that guy, because I do believe I can defeat Anderson Silva.”

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans, took to the UFC 156 pre-fight conference call to field questions and promote his upcoming fight. On the docket was a possible move to middleweight and his thoughts on a fight against Anderson Silva.

  1. GRT 3000 says:

Sorry Rashad…your good, but Andy would smash you.

  2. Sasquatch says:

I see him getting Machida’d back into the dream world again.

  3. Time To Wrestle says:

Yah he would. I think he would annihilate Andy. I’d like to see Andy fight Rashad at 205. Andy is an old man and will get a beating soon if he doesn’t quit.

  4. skritchin says:

would be a great matchup, if Rashad could go to his wrestling roots, he might pull out a decision.

  5. tt1970 says:

Advocare !!! Healthy way to cut weight without losing muscle or banned substances…

  6. mark says:

If you fools do not think Rashad can’t take Andy down and keep him there your dreaming . Look how well chael did. Even though he lost he still had success with his wrestling . Rashads set ups for his td are way faster and.better than chaels. His striking is good enough to set up his shots. Don’t let andersons record fool you. Yeah he beat alot of top guys but most of those guys style played right into andersons game

    • Chris says:

It’s very obvious that your opinion is based more on a bias, than factual, logical information. We understand you like Rashad, but to make statements like this, makes you look like a fool at best.

  7. davee says:

why doesnt anderson silva fight Rashad in light heavy weight with out a title defence would still be a fight in the making Anderson silver walks around at the same weight as Rashad anyway .

  8. Brandon says:

I’d like to see the fight them fight anywhere between 185 and 205. Anderson has a new 10 fight deal and Rashad can take a number. If he drops to 185, there’d be a number of other ppl to fight: Weidman, Belfort, Boestch, Okami, Lombard. The division is deep! I think against Andy Rash’s wrestling might steal him the 1st round as Andy gets a feel for the fight, but Rash gets KTFO’d before the end of the rd 3…

  9. Sarge says:

Rashad has a “Chance” because he has good stand-up and wrestling…He coudnt hold Anderson down nearly as well as Chael (not many in the game can) but he could take him down, But, As the last 6-7 years have shown us… Its hard to bet against The Spider.

  10. DjLouis says:

Shame that Rampage is going to have his last fight this weekend coming up. and yeah i agree with some people. Rashad Stand up game is Good and he has Wrestling to back him up. Something that Anderson cant handle once he is taken to the ground. it will be an interesting fight to see happen. but i Still would go for my man. Anderson Silva All the Way!!

    • Jon says:

Anderson has an insane technical ability standing up or when taken down. Not sure why you say he
“Can’t handle one he is taken to the ground.” If you watched the first match against Sonnen, you will learn that against a very good wrestler, Silva “Handled” being on the ground quite well. One reason that he is so amazing. I need to stop reading these posts, people here are clueless and make bias statements, monkey bull shit….constantly. Educate yourselves people. And I’m really not referring to you Dj Louis. It’s most people here. It so annoying to listen to people who just have no idea what they are talking about.

  11. Jujitsu Player says:

At 205 I’d probably give the edge to Rashad, his MMA wrestling is fantastic and he was great striking and power. I dunno how he could cut down to 185 though, no matter how he changes his diet he’d have to drop some serious last minute pounds and that means strength, I think Silva takes him easily then. Would love to see it at either weight though.

  12. Sevz says:

fight can go either way. Spiders champion because he’s great in every aspect so the longer it lasts the better chance he’ll outsmart Rashad. After Rashads sparring session/play fight for Bones Jones belt this seems like a publicity stunt.
Does he really think he can beat him or saying shit to get in the headlines and look cool for a year til it happens?
