Evans On UFC Sponsoring Jones | "I can't worry about who the UFC favors"

By Jose Garcia:
With arguably the most anticipated UFC fight of all time on the horizon, Rashad Evans is growing sick of talking about Greg Jackson and his former teammate, and Saturday night’s opponent, Jon Jones. Evans has mentioned on more than one occasion that he is plain and simple just ready to fight.

In a recent radio interview on the MMA hour with Ariel Helwani, Evans spoke about fighting Saturday night in Atlanta, “When it comes down to it, I started to fight because I love to fight and I was good at it,” he said. “I still want it to remain the same. Even though I don’t like Jon, and all the whole back story, and the whole Greg situation, at the end of the day, this is what I really love to do, and I’m going to keep that mindset throughout this whole week and throughout this fight.”

In this weekend’s light-heavyweight title bout, Rashad Evans is an unheard of 6-1 underdog and is looking to prove all of his doubters wrong by beating the undefeated Jones.

Rashad Evans is no stranger to the main even lime-light, but if he wants to pick up the upset victory this weekend he will have to keep his emotions in check and do what no one has been able to thus far, find a way to stop Jones. Jones is arguably the most talented and versatile athlete on the UFC roster and not only will Rashad Evans have to slow down Jones’ unorthodox attacks but he will also need to fight a smarter, more mature fight than Jones. Rashad is eight years the elder of Jon Jones and is looking to capitalize on Jones’ youth.

To add a little fuel to already burning inferno, last week the UFC stunned us all when they decided to sponsor their light-heavyweight champion at this Saturday’s main event. Rashad Evans again speaking with Helwani has made clear he has bigger things to worry about on his agenda. “It seems they got their guy that they’re going to get behind, I guess. I can’t really say too much about that. I just got to go in there and do what I need to do. I can’t really worry about that. I can’t really worry about who they favor or who they may like. It doesn’t change anything.”

Evans seems focused and ready to put all the talk aside and see who is the best fighter in their respected weight class is.

If he gave Dana white the reach-around he could get a sponsorship also.

  2. Zack says:

Of course Dana sponsors jones. He also wipes his ass. And Gsp’s.

  3. McCombski says:

Jones is dana’s puppet… being in all his commericals and fake saving old ladies from purse snatchers haha god rashad is gonna put a wooping on his ass

I am not part of the “Bones” clan. I cant respect him as a man, honestly how can you? I cant wait for him to fail whether it is Rashad or Joe Bob I do not care. For him to be mentioned as a P4P fighter with the likes of GSP or Anderson Silva is insulting to me. Is the dude a monster at 205 no doubt. I guess I expect more from a Champion than fake sportmanship etc. I am sad that Legends like Randy Couture are gone only to be replaced by men that cannot even spell humble.

    • ThaGreenBandit says:

Sounds to me that you’re just finding stuff to bitch about, when it comes to guys not even being able to spell humble. Take a look at the roster, and many of those guys have attended college, and come off as pretty intelligent. Not all, but most. If you’re talking about Jones, you really don’t know what you’re talking about, because he’s far from being just some dumb fighter. Besides, this isn’t a spelling contest, or battle of the wits, it’s a combat sport, so being able to spell humble really has nothing to do with anything.

    • CanILive says:

Yea can’t respect a dedicated man who works hard and takes care of his family….. Smh

      • Shawn says:

How about a kid that used to be genuinely humble, but just pretends to be. Or rather obviously isn’t but still thinks he is. Go watch his first interviews, and the way he was coming into fights. Then compare it to how he is now. I give to him as a fighter no doubt. But as a person, he’s lost some respect from me.

  5. Mwill says:

Do any of you understand the difference between arrogant, confident, and disrespectful? Jon is not arrogant, he is confident. Wouldn’t you be after leaving a trail of destruction through the who’s who of the 205 division? The only thing remotely arrogant was when Jon told Rashad what he was going to do to him on fight night. You can not say it was arrogant because if you look at Rashad’s face when Jon said that, you would know that even Rashad knows it is confidence, not arrogance! Rashad on the other hand is disrespectful. Ever see him grab his crotch during a fight? What MMA move is that? Ever see Rashad running his mouth during a fight? Sure you have, right before Machida knocked him the fuck out! Ever see Rashad dance during a fight? Those are all signs of arrogance and disrespect. It’s time to take your rightful spot Rashad as the new 205 “gate keeper” you arrogant, disrespectful piece of shit!

  6. Ronin says:

Dana White is full of crap, he is nothing more than a modern day white man’s Don King, he couldgive a crap about any fighter, he lies and manipulates everyone and if you don’t bow to his will then you’re gone. I would love to see one of these fighters snap, and just beat his freaking ass. As far as the fight, I’ll side with Evans.

  7. maurice says:

some1 plz explain whats wrong with this? some1 explain to me y jones is “fake.” the motherfucker starts dominating in a division that cant keep a champ, and for some reason he’s fake, arrogant, etc. i still think the only reason ppl hate dude is because he beat the living shit out of shogun…and we all know EVERY MMA FAN in the world is a fan of shogun. i hated jones for awhile after that fight, and hated him even more after the rampage fight. after the machida fight he won me over. he took some good shots from machida, and remained unfazed, and showed a real maturity in the cage which i didnt expect. so not a big jones fan, still dont care if he loses the belt. but i know damn well you dont go beating up guys like shogun, machida, and rampage..then losing to a guy who cant strike with any of those men, in rashad evans. jones by 1st round stoppage. easiest fight jones has had since like bader.

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

I haven’t liked him since the first fight I saw him in and that was against Matt Hamil. The dude is already deaf does he need to be blind too? The Shogun match was rough to watch. But, I’d like to see a ring rust free, well conditioned Shogun (no flabby gut) to fight Jones again. Shogun I have trust in can get the job done.

As far as being fake, I would like him to keep it real like in the UFC Primetime bit. The he is constantly trying to make himself seem more important when he is insecure, talking about those that love him even though no one asked, trying to appear like an intellectual (I don’t have a problem with a large vocab), emulating Bruce Lee (there can only be one Bruce Lee), overlooking Rashad and Hendo by wanting fights at HW in 2012. Quoting Bruce Lee like he made the damn quote up himself.

  8. maurice says:

@NinjaOreo no disrespect, but everything you put typed was absolutely stupid. like i said no disrespect, just keeping it real. so ur saying jones is insecure, bruce lee wannabe, wannabe intelligent human being, and over confident because he thinks nobodies taking his belt?…if thats wat u wanna believe then ok i guess. lol

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

That’s cool, you asked for someone to point out to you why he is perceived as fake. You may think it’s stupid but can you tell me why any of this is invalid?

Emulating and quoting without giving credit to the greatest modern martial artist isn’t fake? Bruce Lee clearly stated not to emulate him because it can’t be done. Stumbling over your words to sound articulate and intelligent works against anyone who wants to sound insightful. Overlooking your opponents especially the rest of the LHW division sounds arrogant to me but he wants to seem humble. He still has to clear out the division. This is fake.

Another reason people might be fed up with Jones is because he is so self righteous. Vitor is heading in that territory currently.

  9. Bjj BB says:

@Mwill- 100% true!! Now i dont need to write anything about that faggot ass rashad!! Lmao

  10. Yaleufc says:

Jones is the real deal but is still human so anything can happen.

  11. torch says:

I lost respect for Jones when I saw him clowning in the crowd with a karate kid headband on! I think he’s trying to be someone he’s not, some fighters can get away with being arrogant and likeable, unfortunately there’s something about Jones that’s rubbing people the wrong way, the ufc sponsorship will do nothing but alienate him more.
