Evans On UFC Sponsoring Jones | "I can't worry about who the UFC favors"

By Jose Garcia:
With arguably the most anticipated UFC fight of all time on the horizon, Rashad Evans is growing sick of talking about Greg Jackson and his former teammate, and Saturday night’s opponent, Jon Jones. Evans has mentioned on more than one occasion that he is plain and simple just ready to fight.

In a recent radio interview on the MMA hour with Ariel Helwani, Evans spoke about fighting Saturday night in Atlanta, “When it comes down to it, I started to fight because I love to fight and I was good at it,” he said. “I still want it to remain the same. Even though I don’t like Jon, and all the whole back story, and the whole Greg situation, at the end of the day, this is what I really love to do, and I’m going to keep that mindset throughout this whole week and throughout this fight.”

In this weekend’s light-heavyweight title bout, Rashad Evans is an unheard of 6-1 underdog and is looking to prove all of his doubters wrong by beating the undefeated Jones.

Rashad Evans is no stranger to the main even lime-light, but if he wants to pick up the upset victory this weekend he will have to keep his emotions in check and do what no one has been able to thus far, find a way to stop Jones. Jones is arguably the most talented and versatile athlete on the UFC roster and not only will Rashad Evans have to slow down Jones’ unorthodox attacks but he will also need to fight a smarter, more mature fight than Jones. Rashad is eight years the elder of Jon Jones and is looking to capitalize on Jones’ youth.

To add a little fuel to already burning inferno, last week the UFC stunned us all when they decided to sponsor their light-heavyweight champion at this Saturday’s main event. Rashad Evans again speaking with Helwani has made clear he has bigger things to worry about on his agenda. “It seems they got their guy that they’re going to get behind, I guess. I can’t really say too much about that. I just got to go in there and do what I need to do. I can’t really worry about that. I can’t really worry about who they favor or who they may like. It doesn’t change anything.”

Evans seems focused and ready to put all the talk aside and see who is the best fighter in their respected weight class is.
