Rampage Jackson Explains Missed Weight | Injured But Refused To Pull Out Of Fight

“I wasn’t going to say anything. I thought I was going to make weight. I got injured in my camp and it kind of hindered me from doing a lot running. I didn’t want to miss this fight, this fight was important to me and I fought so hard to get it so I said forget it I’m just going to man up and still make the fight.

I kept training in other ways but I just couldn’t get the road work in, then I healed up and starting get road work in but it was a little bit too late. I started cutting weight but I had a lot of weight to cut. I cut 21 pounds I just couldn’t get the last six. It’s kind of difficult you got to weigh-in earlier and I kind of underestimated the time. I woke up at three o’clock this morning to cut weight. I cut everything I had.

I’m not going to say [what the injury is] because I don’t want Ryan Bader to find out and go for it. I’m pretty much healed up right now.

I had to cut a lot of weight, I’m not comfortable with saying how much weight I had to cut but it’s the most weight I’ve ever had to cut in my life and when I got off the airplane I knew that I retained a lot of water and I really didn’t eat that much on the airplane, just a few snacks that I brought with me and I was even more surprised that I gained more weight on the airplane. I was like ‘Whoa, what is going on?’, it kind of surprised me. By now I can run so I was running on the treadmill and stuff and I was trying to get it off, I didn’t know I wasn’t going to make weight until a couple of hours ago.”

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson tells FUEL TV why he missed weight for tomorrow night’s co-main event. More coming… stay tuned to BJPENN.COM

  1. Justen says:

“I cut 21lbs”. “I’m not gunna say how much weight I cut”. “I couldn’t run”. “I’m not gunna say what I injured”. Hmmmm I bet he cut 21lbs, and I bet it was his knee he injured. lol

  2. Nick says:

That sucks. I’m still cheering for him. He gonna get em.

  3. ricardo says:

there’s always bullshit going on every card!

  4. Jason says:

Rampage is done. Anyone who really watched his performance in his last couple fights know what im talking about. Hes just squeezing out a paycheck now. His fights are boring! Not the Rampage of old. Sorry.

  5. Jason N says:

Pull out or Make weight.one or the other. I don’t like Bader at all. But, I hope he wins now.

  6. Jason N says:

If he couldn’t get his fat but on a tread mill it is his legs for sure. Bader should Forrest Griffen that ass. Leg kicks all night.

  7. bertram2323 says:

man its fucking pathetic to see how many haters are around. you guys are all rampage nutthuggers until he misses weight and now you throw him to the wolves. i bet most of you have never competed in a sport period, let alone cut weight. LET ALONE cut over 15 pounds in less than 24 hours. stop hating because rampage missed weight, stop hating because rampage hasnt had a KO since wanderlai. the guy is exciting, he always brings it. he’s never in a lay-n-pray fight, and he’s always entertaining. mma fans are fucking retarded with how EASILY you guys jump on and off a bandwagon. like seriously, its fucking sad how you hate on fighters for ANY little thing they do wrong. like i said, most of you are probably covered in doritoe crumbs right now on your moms couch, so grow up, and stop being a fuckin hater. yes im a rampage fan, but im a fan of ALL fighters, ‘boring’ ones included. respect what these guys do, how they train, how they fight, whether ‘boring’ or not, and stop treating them like commodities. most of you have no idea the hardship of being a fighter, or doing anything physically taxing. grow the fuck up you chumps, its easy to sit and criticize when you cant and wont do anything half as successful as any of these guys.

    • Akid says:

Easily the best post i’ve seen on here! Well done mate… I agree 100%!

    • magoo says:

nice rant….bottom line you miss weight you lose all credibility,I was rootin for Page but now I have to go to the dark side.. Bader for the win,its all about respect!

      • magoo says:

        @ bertram2323

      • Jason N says:

I agree. He still could have made weight. I could see his fighting suffering from the injury, but not his weight. I still like him it’s just not good for the sport to miss weight.

I think it is the right of any fan to express their opinion about fighters as long as it is said in a civilized manner. Without the fans these guys would not get paid at all.

    • Mach00man says:

They need to put a “like” button on this website. That was a real post good post bro. “Covered in Doritos crumbs on your moms couch”….LOL!

  8. SonnenFan says:

Is Rampage going to lose his title if he wins this fight because he missed weight? Who will be the new heavyweight champion now?

  9. BobO says:

Love Quinton, but he’s gotta make weight! I have no idea if this is the first time, or one of a few times. I doubt he has missed weight alot though because I never remember hearing about it after watching pretty much his entire career both in Pride and The UFC. It does happen sometimes. I hope though, That he buckles down and puts some fools to sleep in the near future like I know that he can if he’s at his best. ~BobO

  10. Not Surprised says:

…only because in Dana White’s vlog, Dana asked Rampage how much he weighed (video was on Tue Feb 21?) and Rampage said “you don’t wanna know.” Right then, I thought Rampage was in trouble with his weight, but I was hoping he would still make weight. That sucks. This still is a sick card!

  11. drew says:

@Billtron… perfect time to use this saying…”that was spot on”

  12. DLo says:

He should have gotten on the bike. That’s what I usually do, but 6 pounds overweight isn’t all that bad I see fighters do it all the time, at least it isn’t significant like Anthony Johnson. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s not a huge advantage if any at all. This just means that Bader could steal this one.

  13. E716 says:

I dont mind nutthuggers because everyone has their favorite fighters but its the ones that always cry about the nutthuggers that gets anoying lol

  14. BX81 says:

I still want rampage to win. I don’t think the 6lbs will be a big deal for bader because he looked physically bigger than rampage. I also don’t recall the last time I seen rampage miss weight. I aslo agree with 20% of the purse going to bader for missing weight and what ever dana white wants to impose if anything. Yeah he was injured but you still gotta make weight just suck it up and take it like a man. For those who think rampage is done, I don’t think so. I think he’s more exciting when he fights a bannger like wandy.

  15. BJC says:

1/ Can’t make weight = I have an excuse for that.
    2/ If he loses = I have an excuse for that.see #1

  16. Bert Rohan says:

bertram2323 real talk, great way to put it…respect the work MMA fighter do. Lazy ass people talking all kinds of crap, they know jack!!! Again bertram2323 good job! great comment!
