Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson: ‘[Jon Jones is] one of the dirtiest opponents I have fought’
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has never been one to shy away from giving his opinion on a fellow fighter.
After his Bellator debut which saw ‘Rampage’ knock out Joey Beltran in the first round, Jackson decided to take a trip to Brazil for a nice, relaxing vacation. A well-deserved one, some would say, after all of the ups and downs he’s gone through in the last few months.
While in Brazil, Rampage took part in the launching of a new MMA academy, and was asked for his opinion on the upcoming fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira (via Fighters Only):
“I think Glover is gonna win. I’m supporting him and I’m betting on him. Jon Jones is an excellent fighter, but he doesn’t always put on a show for the fans, so they aren‘t always happy with him.”
Some people feel that Jon ‘Bones’ Jones can be a bit cold – a bit callous – when it comes to the way he handles his opponents. Most notably in his fight with ‘The Dragon’, when he apathetically dropped the unconscious Lyoto Machida to the mat after halting the flow of oxygen to his brain. And although Jackson may believe that Jones is an “excellent fighter”, he also believes that the UFC champion is not exactly the cleanest fighter in the sport:
“He is a great athlete. He is also one of the dirtiest opponents I have fought. If I could, I would break his knee for him so doesn’t fight ever again.”
‘Rampage’ never explains why he feels this way about Jones, but one would have to assume it’s due to the oblique kicks that ‘Bones’ likes to throw – kicks that can cause the victims knee to become hyperextended, and possibly injured.
Jones had this to say about the kicks:
If someone’s trying to give us brain damage, we believe that it’s an even trade-off to give them a little limp for the rest of their life.
What do you think, Penn Nation? Are strikes to the front of the knee “dirty”? Or is Rampage just overreacting?
