Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson: ‘[Jon Jones is] one of the dirtiest opponents I have fought’

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has never been one to shy away from giving his opinion on a fellow fighter.

After his Bellator debut which saw ‘Rampage’ knock out Joey Beltran in the first round, Jackson decided to take a trip to Brazil for a nice, relaxing vacation. A well-deserved one, some would say, after all of the ups and downs he’s gone through in the last few months.

While in Brazil, Rampage took part in the launching of a new MMA academy, and was asked for his opinion on the upcoming fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira (via Fighters Only):

I think Glover is gonna win. I’m supporting him and I’m betting on him. Jon Jones is an excellent fighter, but he doesn’t always put on a show for the fans, so they aren‘t always happy with him.”

Some people feel that Jon ‘Bones’ Jones can be a bit cold – a bit callous – when it comes to the way he handles his opponents. Most notably in his fight with ‘The Dragon’, when he apathetically dropped the unconscious Lyoto Machida to the mat after halting the flow of oxygen to his brain. And although Jackson may believe that Jones is an “excellent fighter”, he also believes that the UFC champion is not exactly the cleanest fighter in the sport:

He is a great athlete. He is also one of the dirtiest opponents I have fought. If I could, I would break his knee for him so doesn’t fight ever again.”

‘Rampage’ never explains why he feels this way about Jones, but one would have to assume it’s due to the oblique kicks that ‘Bones’ likes to throw – kicks that can cause the victims knee to become hyperextended, and possibly injured.

Jones had this to say about the kicks:

If someone’s trying to give us brain damage, we believe that it’s an even trade-off to give them a little limp for the rest of their life.

What do you think, Penn Nation? Are strikes to the front of the knee “dirty”? Or is Rampage just overreacting?

  1. lou sasshole says:

Rampage says a lot of dumb shit sometimes but I couldn’t agree more on this one…..those knee kicks are dirrrtyyy.

    • Sam says:

If u think oblique kicks are dirty, then u must think knee bars are dirty too. The fighter’s job is to go into the octagon and give the other guy an ass-whooping no matter how he has to do it.

  2. magoo says:

Quit ur pissing and moaning Waaaaampage, Jones smashed u!!! As far as being dirty those front knee kicks are legal dude.

  3. T.Daddy says:

Sez the guy who hit wandy 3 Times after he was knocked out… He’s still mad about the thrashing bones gave him when they fought…

  4. drew says:

i think quinton forgets what an actual street fight is. He wants to say he is from the streets of tennessee which he is but a street fight anything will be thrown anything will be used anything is open game…and your bitchn at bones for punching and kicking your lead leg so you cant use your explosive power as much? Dirty? I call it smart…bones will never be a guy who goes in there trying to end someones career , break a bone, hold a submission to long etc but to each their own

  5. garreth says:

Until you’ve felt an “oblique” kick, I’d reserve You’re opinion on the how ethical it is to use it, its a nasty kick that does brutal damage to one’s knee beding it backwards with the force of the kick.

  6. ^ says:

Yeah those kicks are bull shit.

    • Nate "THE ROID CHEAT" Marquardt says:

Jones is the biggest cheap shot artist in MMA. He uses those 7 foot long pencil legs to smash his opponents knees. What i don’t understand is how is cheap a’ss knee strikes from jones not considered as dangerous as Palharis heel hooks

Jones is pure scum and if it wasn’t for his considerable size and reach advantage he wouldn’t be nearly as dominant.

Cain is going to smash Jones

  7. 757 says:

JBJ is a complete asshole. When will people learn that this dude is a little bitch. Gus busted his ass and now he is afraid to fight him again. Other guys jump right back in for these rematches win or lose. This dirty little bitch is a spoiled brat and one of Dana’s little pets. Rampage is right. I can’t wait to see JBJ get knocked out. It’s going to happen eventually. I can’t wait

  8. KIDD433 says:

Jones is a dirty ass fighter no doubt. Those kicks are a disgrace to the sport. The only reason it’s legal is because the dumbass that wrote the rules was clueless of combat sports. It makes no sense since they’re illegal in kickboxing. Kickboxing has been around, MMA is fairly new and it is constantly evolving. Sooner or later those kicks to the knee will be illegal, but in the mean time, we’ll see scumbags like Sissy Jones and Travis Browne throw ‘em. It takes a certain kind of person to pull a move like that, that’s why Jones will never be champ in my eyes.

  9. hanibal says:

There is no comparison between these two techniques, a strike to the head wont end your career and threaten your livelihood and it wont cause you brain damage unless you get hit a lot without defending yourself and get brutally knocked out many times in the gym and in fights for several years
in that regard it is similar to normal leg kicks, they might damage your knees if you are always getting caught with them continuously throughout your career without defending them
on the other hand, oblique kicks don’t take more than only one fight in your career with an asshole like jones to fuck your knees up and cause permanent damage that will possibly destroy your future in the sport even if you manage to come back from it

  10. Gargoyle Wrestling says:

I know there a bunch of Jones lovers on this site!!! lol…and I used to not like those obliques either, but after training them a bit, they are a good tool to have. No more dangerous than an over hand punch that can cause a concussion and do dain bramage on an opponent. Is it dirty, maybe, but so is choking someone unconscious. At the end of day nancies, this is the fight game and not patty-cakes….Man Up!!

    • knees2faces says:

Fuck yea bro i agree. If you know your opponent does attack the you should be ready for it. Its a fight, i think people tent to forget that.

  11. BX81 says:

I agree, those kicks should be illegal. At least in a sub you have the chance to tap out. Those kicks can hyper extend the knee.

  12. TQ78 says:

NO QUESTION ABOUT IT THOSE KNEE BLOWS ARE DIRTY
2 RAMS WOULDN’T BUTT HEADS ABOUT IT HOWEVER THERE SEEM TO BE SOME WHO DON’T APPRECIATE IT

YOU KNOW WHAT I LOVE BONES AND HIS FIGHTING STYLE BUT I’VE NEVER AGREED WITH THOSE DIRTY KICKS

I WOULD DEFINITELY PENALIZE HIM OR AT LEAST OBJECT ITS POSSIBLE SOMEONE COULD GET BRAIN DAMAGE BUT BLOWING THE KNEE OUT IS MORE PROBABLE BESIDES YOU HAVE GLOVES ON TO PROTECT YOUR HEAD AND NOTHING FOR YOUR KNEES

  13. 12thman says:

Its fighting right??? Lets not go the NFL route nut up or shut up rampage its your job to defend yourself in the octagon you do get paid to fight

  14. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

The kicks are dirty, but as long as they aren’t illegal you can’t blame him for using it as a tool to win fights. In other striking based martial arts like Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Karate etc. it’s an illegal kick because it’s a potentially career ending technique.
    .
Ofcourse the unified rules of mma are established under the guidance of Jeff Blatnick who was a great wrestler but didn’t have a clue about the striking game.

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

To be more accurate, the Unified Rules were developed and refined by MacCarthy, Joe Silva and Blatnick…Were all of them Greco-Roman champions?
      .
Interesting fact as well, Blatnick came up with the name Mixed Martial Arts.

      • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Blatnick was the man in charge and the one originally tasked to make the sport legit, he added McCarthy and Silva so it’s safe to say that he had the most influence in the final version. Which in turn explains why the scoring is so wrestling orientated.

  15. Dddddddddd says:

When Anderson showed up to the Tales fight with those baby’s back in the day I thought they were bogus. Most of you aren’t aware of this or are hypocrites. Johnny’s just showin off the move he learned from his mentor,,,Anderson.

  16. Cesar says:

    It’s a fight, not a tickling contest
    -Turkish

  17. James Waddell says:

It’s mix MARTIAL ARTS, Strikes and kicks are designed to attack different parts of the body. If you can ‘t handle that kick, figure a way around it.
