Pro's Pick UFC 143 Diaz vs. Condit For BJPENN.COM *Updated*

UFC 143 is set to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on February 4th. Nick Diaz will face Carlos Condit for the UFC’s interim welterweight title live on pay-per-view.
GSP vs. Condit was originally scheduled for the event until a brash Diaz got into the head of GSP with a variety of insults which eventually prompted the champion to request to face the Stockton fighter, Nick Diaz, as soon as possible in the place of Condit.
Condit was than scheduled to face off with Josh Koscheck and Diaz with GSP in February’s main and co-main UFC 143 featured bouts. However, in this circle of top welterweights nothing ever seems to go as planned.
With the announcement that welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre was injured and out for 10 months Condit was then put in position to face off with Diaz in the main event of UFC 143 for the UFC’s interim welterweight title.
I took some time last night to poll some of my favorite fighters for predictions regarding tomorrow night’s UFC 143 main event between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit.
Here is what they had to say:
Antonio Banuelos (DREAM):“Have to go with Diaz because I know him.”
Justin Buchholz (UFC vet): “Diaz, 209 bitch!that is all, haha!”
Martin Kampmann (UFC): “I think it’s 50/50but I’m gonna go with Condit because alot of people are counting him out, but he is tough as nails.”
Joe Duarte (Strikeforce): “I got Diaz winning this one. He’s way too tough. It’s going to be a sick fight.”
Phil Baroni (UFC vet): “I think I’m going to put in a parlay that goes like this. Condit, Country and Pierce. I’m not going by who I really think is going to win but this has great pay back. Hookers and party favors on me if I hit this. I’m laying $200 on it.
”
Tiki Ghosan (UFC vet/coach): “Diaz (much like Nate vs. Cerrone)”
Eddie Bravo (Famed Coach): “Condit is a bad mofo but I can’t bet against Diaz right now. He’s on fire.”
Shane Nelson (UFC vet): “Man this one is a tough one. I like Condit but Diaz is tough. I will go Condit by UD.”
Jason Brilz (UFC vet): “well seeing how I’m never correct I’m going with Condit with the hope that they will give Jake Ellenberger a rematch with him then.”
Jacon Volkmann (UFC):“Diaz TKO 2nd round.”
James Wilks (UFC): “Diaz”
Frank Shamrock (UFC Champion / MMA legend): “Diaz all the way.”
Joe Doerksen (UFC): “Dunno, but I’m a Diaz fan so I am hoping TKO win for him in 3rd round.”
Dennis Hallman (UFC): “Diaz by abusive striking”
TJ Grant (UFC): “It seems wrong that everyone is already looking past Condit to the GSP/Diaz fight. Part of me wants to see him win just because… But I think Nick takes the fight withhis pressure. Condit is a warrior but I don’t see him backing Nick up. This will be the difference.”
Josh Thomson (Strikeforce): “Gotta support the Bay Area fighter since we are the best in the world. DIAZ!!!”
Tim Hague (UFC): “Diaz, TKO Rd. 2 or 3″
Jens Pulver (UFC Champion / MMA Legend): “Oh you know I can’t go against Diaz. Best of luck to them both, but DIAZ DIAZ!”
John Salter (UFC): “I’m hoping Condit.”
Pat Barry (UFC): “Diaz”
Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (UFC): “Diaz”
RESULTS:
DIAZ: 15 Votes
CONDIT: 6 Votes
UPDATE 02/04/12
Alan Belcher (UFC): “Diaz is one of my favorites. Not impressed with his attitude but amazing fighter.”
Joey Beltran (UFV vet): “I think Diaz by unanimous decision, Big Country by 2rd TKO and Pierce by split decision.”

Diaz just seems to be at another level right now. Condit is tough, yes, but he also hasn’t fought since July last year. I think “cage rust” will be a bit of a factor for him, and his best chance to win is early.. I am just hoping for a great night of fights.. This is obviously the fight everyone wants to see, but I am looking forward to the Barao/Jorgensen match-up as well.
What does BJ, think….let’s hear from you Hawaiian!
Condit 1st round TKO… he lets people hit him and condit puts people to sleep.
Didn’t Lesnar get the same love against the Reem? Well we know what happened to Lesnar ..Condit for the win!
The fighters don’t know much. They are too busy training – focused on their individual careers. We, the fans, know better than them.
condit didn’t look to good during the weigh ins, looked a lot like cerrone needing water ASAP, GONNA BE AN AWESOME FIGHT
Not that it matters but I counted a couple times and keep coming up with 16 votes for Diaz and 5 for Condit. Its listed as 15 to 6.
now it should be 18 to 5
sucks to see Beltran with a “vet” by his status. Man, dude always throws down
ya it really does
This is going to be a great fight, too many people are counting Condit out, but with his length,a reach that exceeds that of Diaz and his more well rounded arsenal of strikes he takes this! Don’t sleep on Albaquerqe
He’s going to knock a smile onto his face!
Man wow thats incredible
who is “Jacon” Volkmann?
