Picket Making Shift To Flyweight, Set To Face McCall In March
Brad Pickett (23-8 MMA, 3-3 UFC) is moving from bantamweight to flyweight for a bout with the top ranked Ian McCall (12-4-1 MMA, 1-2-1 UFC) in early 2014.
This bout is set to take place at the UFC European Tour in London event on March 8 at the O2 Arena in London, announced UFC officials.
The event is planned on being live streamed on the new digital network that UFC plans on launching soon.
Pickett is ranked No. 8 in the bantamweight division according to BJPENN.COM’s rankings while McCall is No. 4 in the flyweight division.
Pickett has won four “Fight of the Fight” honors in his six bouts in the Octagon. However, coming off of losses against fighters such as Michael McDonald and Eddie Wineland has had Pickett, age 35, flirting with the idea of dropping a weight class and going down to the stacked 125 division.
Pickett will definitely have his hands full with the 29-year-old McCall. Although McCall has lost 3 of his past 4 bouts under the Zuffa banner he has done so by the likes of current 125 lb. champ Demetrious Johnson (majority draw and unanimous decision loss) and No. 1 contender Joseph Benavidez (unanimous decision loss). However, McCall is coming off of a win against Iliarde Santos last August in which “Uncle Creepy” won “Fight of the Fight” honors, and hopes to best Pickett and stay within in the upper echelon of the flyweight division.
McCall recently withdrew from a fight with Scott Jorgensen that was set to take place at UFC on FOX 9 this coming Saturday due to an undisclosed injury.
Here is the lineup, so far, for the UFC European Tour in London:
Alexander Gustafson vs. Jimi Manuwa
Melvin Guillard vs. Ross Pearson
Ian McCall vs. Brad Pickett
Cyrille Diabate vs. Ilir Latifi
